Here's what I have, what can I do... layout advice??
Comments (6)Hi, thanks for the advice. To answer the questions, yes, I could move windows,I think. My table is in the sort of empty corner that we have now. Its 5 1/2 by 3feet. I thought about a banquette, but Im not sure how I feel about them. The notation at the bottom of the sketch says baseboard, which is the type of heat we currently have. I have no idea if that has to stay or can get moved around or changed or lessened. As far as the doors, we don't have another door in the dining room, we do have a large set of windows, that we could contemplate changing into french doors, but again, there is heat there, and then my kids would be traveling in and out of the dining room sopping wet. Im not sure if the foyer door could be moved down. we probably need it somewhere on that wall, as it comes in right off the 4 steps to our family room. High traffic!!! Finally, Juliekcmo, you are right on in your assessment with the functional issues. I do use our cook-top as counter (although I would love to replace our electric with gas when we renovate), and I think a range would be our best option as well. I also use my table now as a prep area, especially since its currently right across from the fridge. Thanks!...See MoreHow am I doing? What can I do better?
Comments (13)you will be fine, 12 lb is perhaps a bit wasteful but not a lot. I have posted in the cornucop forum recently about this, because I am consistently able to grow large garlic. my routine is far simpler than yours, just raised beds, mulch with leaves (or wood chips if I can get them), and one shot of nitrogen in early spring. I have alkaline clay. I do not add P even though the original soil was nearly P-free (though some P may have gotten there when rotating potatoes into the bed). I do have wood in the beds to promote fungi and repeated mulching over the years has enriched the soil some. I grow about 300 plants per year, for 3 families plus some for friends and replanting....See MoreDouble front doors won't be centered if I add a portico. What can I do?
Comments (15)I see no purpose for an odd portico added to this house it is already a bit off balancewise and IMO adding another element will not work unless you do a complete porch all across the front with supports , tied into the roof and done right.I do not see what would be better inside either . I agree work on the landscaping and save the huge $$$$ this will cost....See MoreWhat can I do with this until I can rip it out?
Comments (24)So this is open on both sides and the back of the TV is exposed in the other room? Was this once a doorway or a passage way between two rooms? At first I thought it was a recessed space. It looks that the problem is not the floor, which does appear to run under it, but it looks as if it has been attached to the wall, made to look as if it were continuous with the wall, and you will need considerable wall repair once it is removed. I advise that you not worry yourself much about whether you have baskets on those shelves ,or whatever. It is your house and your stuff and it is not messy. Now that I realize that it is between rooms, or spaces, it looks awkward and I can see why you would want to remove it....See Morekaren64
