Freecycle ?

I want to post some things on freecycle, and possibly look for some items. There is a chapter for the town I live in. There are also chapters in a few very nearby towns. Do I have to join each individual chapter separately ? Is there a way to post to "all the chapters within 20 miles", for example?

You have to be a member of each chapter to post on it or reply to any of the other offers or wanteds. You can use the same user name on as many chapters as you want so long sas no one else has that user name first. I make up my offers and wanteds on word pad first then just copy and paste to each chapter I want the items on.

If you post messages from your email you can simply type in all the email addresses you want your post to go to and send one email to all of them at once. Keep in mind though that some Freecycle moderators do not appreciate it when members crosspost. You might want to just start with your local group and then post messages on the others if you don't get any local replies.

Sorry, Tish - I posted before reading your message. My urban kitchen/dining room colours are two of those taupe shades that you see everywhere now. Mine have a pinky tone to them, though, to go with the pinky backsplash tiles all over my kitchen. You can see one of the two wall colours in the photo I posted of the new table. In the kitchen I have an island that I built, painted a very light taupe colour, with two bar stools that are iron, with light taupe upholstery on the seats. I agree, I would never buy/take a used mattress. HOWEVER, we bought a furnished condo and it came with a bed/mattress and I had no problem using it. I also have no problem sleeping on beds/mattresses in hotels and they are "used", and they are actually "used" by numerous strangers. So, I really don't know why it would bother me to buy/take a new looking, slightly used mattress from very nice and clean looking stranger, but it would... just seems different than sleeping behind strangers in a hotel bed. But, I'm sure there are lots of people that would love to have the used mattress, and if it was between sleeping on the floor and sleeping on a used mattress...I'm sure I'd take the used mattress.

We received the original vacuum as a bridal shower gift from my father-in-law, so I had no idea how much Electrolux vacuums cost, but a year or so ago the hose developed a hole near the handle. My sister was going to a store that was next to the local Electrolux store, so my wife asked her to take the damaged hose in to replace it. She brought home a new hose and a receipt showing it cost something like $150. Which was crazy since the original hose could have been fixed with $0.10 worth of duct tape. however since the store had "helpfully" kept the old hose, that was no longer an option. I decided to return the overpriced hose, and when they pushed for a reason why, I told them there was no point in keeping it since the main unit had fallen down the stairs and stopped working. They launched into a spiel about how their vacuums are a long term investment, urging me to keep the hose and bring the unit in so they could fix it, and when I declined that they launched into a sales pitch for me to replace it with a new unit. IIRC they have three models that they sell for $1500, $1800 and $2300, which are simply crazy prices.

Sally, the group in the town next door is way bigger than mine. Is it a problem to anyone (moderators or members) if you post first to a town that your items are not in? I would then follow up later with my own town's list if the items did not go.

Jamies, I believe the items are yours to give away and you may give away to anyone, anywhere you please. I just wouldn't list items in more than 1 group at a time. IMO it is a matter of how far someone is willing to go to get an item they want. Local is easier and faster usually. My local group is VERY large now and things get going FAST.
