BB Gazing Balls

I just want to thank you all for showing so many of your lovely BB Gazing Balls , I ended up making three so far and plan on making a lot more.. have some orders for some and as soon as all this Christmas stuff is all over.. I am going to get back to it again.. I was busy making Grave Blankets and Christmas Swags this Christmas.. and making throws for some of the girls I went to school with.. I use the flat sided marbles..and I want to try a different one next.. maybe one with the photos under the clear flat sided marbles or etc.. They were a lot of fun.. Thanks again.. I love this site.

Well your welcome Joan, they are beautiful BB's aren't they. I made my first one last year (covered a 4" styrofoam ball with the half marbles) and used the base of a lamp for a stand for it. It looks real nice on my porch. You might also find some nice BB decoration on the Garden Junk forum - here's the link:

I used the grout that has portland cement in it. It's an interior/exterior grout. I got it at menard's. I will seal it too. I can't leave it out in the winter here. The freeze/thaw would crack it terribly. Deb

Bball/gazing ball holders?

I've been lurking here for weeks and this bowling ball holder problem forced me to join up so I could share my idea. I was having trouble finding anything cheap...uh, inexpensive. Now I make holders out of two 6" azalea pots (they're squattier than regular pots). I glue them together bottom to bottom with liquid nails, then reinforce with a fat bolt and washers thru the drainage holes. Seal and spray paint and add a few appropriate colored flat marbles to accent the ball. Of course, right after I bought 8 pots to make 4 holders, I started finding big candle holders every time I went in a 2nd hand store. Fortunately, I have friends who are so taken by the whole idea, they bring old bowling balls to me. I started doing these last August and have made 6 and have 7 waiting for their transformation. Welcome to the junk yard!! If your gluing things to your bb. GE Silicone II clear for doors and windows. Check the date when you buy it cause it does go out of date. Extreme heat or cold will affect the drying ability. It comes in two sizes.. A small easy to hold size and a size that goes in a caulking gun. I use both sizes. If you grout make sure it's ok for outside... and seal with tile and grout sealer. If you are painting I like Krylon fusion for plastics. But people have used all kinds of outside paint. Take lots of pictures for us to drool over. HAVE FUN!!
