To remain flexible, it can work to put in your high bar along as much length as you can, and then use one of those hanging bar adapters to create 2 tiers of hanging space in just one area, when you aren't sure you want 2 permanent tiers or exactly how much long/short space you need. Various closet and container stores carry not only the standard 30' or so hanging bars, but also (more expensive) adjustable hanging bars that telescope down to a foot or so. You can also then purchase various organizer things that hang from the high bar to store shoes or purses or whatever and take advantage of the full length of space. All of those can add up in cost and not look as polished as a neat-o custom closet installation, and don't make quite as good use of space as when you create just the niches needed for each known item, but are good when you think your clothing items and needs (and who gets what) might change over time--and they're becoming more mainstream-available so the prices are coming down.

Traditionally, the bed is the focal point of a bedroom and that's usually achieved by making sure it's placed in the best spot in the room and having the headboard wall draw the eye. (Focal point does not necessarily mean pattern.) Feel free to skip the picture above the headboard if you find the headboard is substantial enough to command attention. (Pictures don't always convey these things accurately so you need to develop your eye to look at your room objectively and trust your taste.) A patterned duvet could also be nice but it all depends on you and the vibe you're seeking in the room. Some people tire quickly of patterns. Others love them forever. There's more than one way to achieve a pleasing bedroom and loads of options out there so being all over the place is par for the course whenever we contemplate change. At least, it is for me. (You should see my Pinterest boards for my little bedroom revamp!) My suggestion to you is to describe the room you want in a few words then decide on your starting point. Most designers will tell you that should be the bed. Figure out your budget and what's staying and you now have your change parameters. Keep your end picture (be it a feeling or a look) in mind to guide you as you choose elements. For example, let's say the vibe you're seeking is "romantic" and you fall in love with a bold geometric duvet. You'll need to ask yourself if this duvet jibes with "romantic" as you pictured it.

If you feel the bed is squished but really want the head of the bed by the windows, you might consider adding a single shelf to the wall above the headboard beneath the art for items that usually go beside the bed and move the bedside tables elsewhere, replacing them with a pair of relatively inexpensive modern floor lamps -- the kind with one light shining toward the ceiling and the other with a flexible arm to be reachable from the bed and usable for reading, etc. I have a heavy oak (more traditional) floor lamp table combo buy my bed but I also have one of these in the corner at the beginning of the hall and recently bought a second one for my as a reading light.
