When my DS and his then-wife bought a very large house in CT, they bought (separate contract from the house) a great deal of the furniture, both indoor and outdoor. When they sold it 5 years later when they divorced, the new buyers wanted a few things. Unfortunately, they were things my DS was to get in the divorce and his wife agreed to this. Since the house had been on the market for 16 months and was selling for nearly $900,000 less than they paid for it, my DS did not make a stink. Wish he had gotten those club chairs, though! My parents bought several rugs in a house they purchased 47 years ago, and had previously bought a few things from a house they had bought in 1962. It's really quite common, and if the sale of the house is due to downsizing, it's an excellent way to sell furniture that is not needed or won't fit in a new residence.

Thanks for the additional thoughts! Patty, you are not a weirdo! I like your idea and would love to see a photo. I think we are satisfied with our current arrangement though, and the mirror really doesn't look too low when you see it in person. (My parents stopped by today and they really liked it hung there. I know they wouldn't have been so vociferous if they didn't think it looked right.) ;-) I have played around with items on the windowsill today and think I'll stick with these things for now: The plant (still want a better pot for it though), my long-legged iron bird, couple of favorite blue and white plates in the Asiatic Pheasant pattern, and a couple of pieces of complementary art pottery. I really like the mix of "finer" items with more rustic things, and that's what I'm trying to pull off in this space.

I would paint whole room to compliment rug vs doing a focal wall, which may make room feel smaller. There are so many options for above bed; I would skip a shelf and plants..need something more impactful. Layering bedding would also look good. Adding drapes will really warm up the room and Ikea has nice choices at good prices. Suggest a black rod. I would place the mirror on inside of closet door. Adding a bedside lamp would be handy. Add baskets around tv and in corner add a plant and wall becomes so much more interesting. By looking at lots of inspiration pictures you may see a look you want to go with for your room. Take your time and add slowly. Have fun!

Glad you took advantage of the time to focus on yourself. Sounds like the divorce and dropping of toxic people freed up a lot of energy in your life for some exciting pursuits!! I have been there with the job stress. When a toxic person leaves the workplace or your life, or when you get a less toxic job, it can seem like you have dropped 100 lbs. without even dieting!!
