Scrap Iron...

Take a look at this old iron that I painted. I couldn't resist painting a laundry line on it. I think I will name the piece "SCRAP IRON". It was too much fun painting it, now I'm looking for more irons to paint.

Hmmm...thought this was a lawn mower forum, not a Miss Manners forum. Well "Dad", perhaps you should spend more time w/your children & less time here making insipid remarks. Fyi, the kid who heled me move was also reimbursed w/a pretty nice 27spd Cannondale mtn bike, needing a bit of work, but not so much so as to prevent him from riding it 15 mi to my house & back for a week...I also bought him lunch every day. The mowers were his idea. Why don't I bring them to your place...might get your kids out from in front of the TV?

Caryn, I would agree with Luvs....find out first instead of regret later. You might also try taking a really good picture of the board and the label and sending it via email to any antique shop that has an online address or just take the photo to any antique shops in your area. Couldn't hurt. Somewhere in the back of my mind I recall seeing a really great idea of how to use the ironing board without doing any damage to it, I will keep it in my mind and hope it click soon. Have you just tried googling antique ironing boards, if you do the visual or pictures, you should come up with lots of pictures. Belle

Chelated iron versus scrap metal to correct iron deficiency

In areas where the top soil is deficient in iron, it is necessary to add it when you plant trees, shrubs, or roses until the roots go to the level where iron is available. Chelated iron sold at nurseries is expensive, but it works fast. Plants have the ability to absorb iron in other forms, and you can prevent a deficiency by adding material which will become part of the soil in the form of iron oxide (rust). When digging a hole for planting, you can throw crushed cans, bottle caps, old nails, and other scrap metal into the hole. In two or three years, the tin cans will have rusted away completely, and you may dig in some more later. Old nails and bottle caps can also be stuck into flower pots. Make sure the cans are not aluminum. When in doubt, test with a magnet. The old method of driving a nail into the truck of a tree is not of lasting benefit.

LOL. Maybe I should explain. When peanut plants are young,they are irrigated then that contraption pushes' stems into mud where they "knuckle down"and sprout roots. Peanuts are produced below ground on roots so the practice result's in increased yield. That was common when peanut acerage was allotted. Since there is no longer restrictions on how many acres one can plant,the practice might no longer be in use. Sorry but you'll still have to use a claw hammer to crack Hickory nuts. Now maybe you can educate me on Hickory nuts. They grow wild in Tx but I've never ate one because meat to shell ratio is discouraging. We use the wood to smoke meat. Are improved varities cultivated for food?
