I'm going to push Natural Magic or Citrus Magic again. Usually at paint counters or cleaning supplies of hardware stores. Ace, Lowes, and some paint dealers near me. There's also a newer brand, Clean Air, I've picked up at Lowe's. I lean toward the Natural Magic only because it's $1 cheaper for the same size container. Any of them work well, the stuff is amazing. There's also Gonzo volcano chips (Home Depot). Gonzo works, but the magic absorbers seem to work much faster. I see the post I linked to is gone. I bought a vintage Drexel Heritage bedroom suite, solid cherry, pristine but one center dresser drawer had perfume smell (strong, like some spilled). It carried into other drawers. No way could I use it, all our clothes would smell like that old perfume. So I cleaned with bleach water, no luck. Put a couple Natural Magic containers in the dresser, kept the drawers cracked about 2" (for air flow, the 'magic' absorbers need some air flow). Rotated them around inside different drawers for about 3 weeks, and smell was gone. I use them everywhere, from rentals between tenants, my closets, cars, pet areas, etc. Worth every penny!

So i read most of the thread here and i am still at loss here... i don't have that much laundry as i been waiting forever for my only bottle of tide to finish its half way done. What do most recommend Persil combo for washing or something else? I have stopped using dryer sheets as my gas dryer produces little to no static and clothes come out smelling fine to me. I was thinking of getting persil universal and persil colour (megaperls) but after reading this thread i am back to square one.

I don't have any pics of the interior, but I'll include more of the exterior. We took these pics before the realtor showed up. Typically they don't allow you to take pics on a walk through. The only downside is not a lot of storage space, it's a tri level, so not a basement per se, but we can always add an addition years down the road. Good to know about replacing septic systems, we were thinking of expanding the house, and now that I think of it, it may infringe on the area where the septic is, so probably not feasible in that direction. Still, there are other options. Izzie, that sounds horrible about your sisters septic situation. I don't think there are any future plans for a city system, but something worth looking into. Thanks for the heads up. I've been told by others in the area that the well water is good. I lived somewhere very briefly with well water, and I had a lot of digestive issues..I chalked it up to food allergies at the time. Immediately after moving, I had no problems. Water softener is comprised of salt, correct? I wonder if it was the water softener causing the problems, or just the well water in general? This was next to a lake. I'm thinking we'll add a small wood burning stove to the lower level, will probably help with the musty smell. I was reading about the pros and cons of casement windows. I don't think these are casement??? Are those storm windows that I'm looking at on the outside (with only exterior removal?) I think some may be up/down sliders, while others are stationary. I have pets that are a little unruly, so I think casement would be difficult since the screens are on the inside. I'm sure my dogs would love to push on the screens. I'm assuming the pipe on the driveway with the reflectors around it (the pic in my first post above) is the septic system? More pics to follow...

I know it may not seem systematic, but I've had my good friend who is a custom home builder out to the house 3 times. Like me, he's been unable to find anything with visual inspections of everything inside, outside, and in the attic. The mold remediation guy came on a day when the smell was strong and smelled it too, but there ended up being no mold detected even though he felt 'confident' there was a leak in the wall. The HVAC guy was a suggestion by the builder of this home. Even though the home was built 7 years ago, we remain friends and in touch so I reached out to him. He suggested the "dirty sock syndrome" even though I struggled with that explanation given the limited nature of the smell and it doesn't seem to emanate from any vents or HVAC equipment. I'm attaching pics of the gas line where it enters the house. I don't see any obvious issues but I'm not an expert. Do you have suggestions on who to call next? A plumber? Home inspector?
