Wow, punk! 1st of all ...I hope you share these pics w/the folks you got the hutch from .... they will be so pleased it found a lovely, caring home! Next ...this is huge! So cool that it is in 3 pcs cause then you can definitely change it out when you feel the need. I love the combo of your 2 sets of dishes ... & what I really love is the open shelf unit in the middle cause you could decorate that so very many ways & still leave the dishes behind glass doors! The decanturs are cool here! What a great find ...you will have fun ... yes, very large but like I said, so great that it's interchangable! TFS! Lovely! Jeanne s.

Hi, I am new here! I have a beautiful, new China Cabinet. When I ordered it in the store, I neglected to ask for mirror backing in the shelving part of the display case. I want to put mirrors in it, but have no idea how to get it done. I called several mirror/glass companies, and they were not interested in mounting the mirror for me. I can get the mirrors cut, but my husband is concerned about how to mount them. The back wall of the china cabinet is plywood, and it feels thin, when I tap on it, you can sure tell it by the sound. This is well made furniture, from the Amish Market. If anyone can help me figure this out, I would appreciate it! Thanks!

We used the top half of the china cabinet I inherited in the library of our former house. I had a plain box base made to hold it, stained it to the same color, and put it behind the small end of an L-shaped sofa, because with its own base, it was too tall to fit in our 8' rooms. It actually started life as a secretary-bookcase, but my great-grandfather, who bought it at auction, only bought the top half, and had a nice but distinctly inferior bottom made for it then. I've tried to find the other half, but with no success. Sigh. So much for its potential value. But I digress ... I put a few groups of nice old books, a couple of pewter pitchers, a plate or two, and some other attractive things in it. I also lined the back wall with a piece of cream jacquard fabric to lighten the whole business. Not sure how well you can see, but here it was: It was traditional in old houses to line the doors of large secretary-bookcases like this one with gathered green cloth to protect the books from sunlight, so you'd be in good company if you decided to put fabric in yours.

If you can save the finish, great! Refinishing is a terrible job. But having dealt with something that looks like that, I suspect that it will not cooperate and reamalgamate (which is a totally legit thing if you have the correct finish for it). It's certainly worth trying. Unfortunately, this style of furniture isn't very valuable but on the bright side, that means you can do what you need to do to find it a place in your home (please don't paint it). If it requires refinishing, so be it. I would stay faithful to the original stain as much as possible, not because it's a museum piece but because it just looks good. Even a little scruffy, it's still elegant. You don't HAVE to do anything.
