These were the instructions listed from EHow: Instructions 1 Roll up the bottom inch or two of the overall legs to create an attractive cuff. This helps balance the planter and gives the illusion of well-worn jeans. 2 Crumple 6- to 8-inch sections of aluminum foil into loose balls. Fill the legs and body of the overalls with balls to form the shape of an infant's body. Avoid overstuffing. Fill in around the shoulder area to hold the straps up. 3 Stand the jeans up on the table and readjust the foil balls until the jeans balance naturally and stand on their own. 4 Saturate the fabric with fabric stiffener using a large brush or soft cloth saturated with stiffener. Adjust folds and the overall shape of the jeans with your hands until you create a natural pose. Allow to dry for 24 hours. 5 Remove the aluminum foil balls from the inside of the bib overalls. 6 Coat the outside of the bib overalls with craft resin to create a hard glossy finish. Follow the instruction for mixing the resin and apply with a soft brush, beginning at the shoulder straps and working downward. Use care to get into creases and folds and cover all areas with a thin coat of resin. 7 Allow to dry for 24 hours. Your full hose bibb length will be: -1/2" nominal width for HardiPlansk siding -7/16" for nominal 1/2" sheathing (OSB or Plywood) -5 1/2" for nominal 2x6 framed walls -1/2" drywall... This adds up to a minimum of 6 3/4" depth for any hose bibb penetration through a wall. This means you need at least an 8" frost-free hose bibb depth to meet any 2006 based ICC/IRC based codes.

Hi Doonie, I just now saw this post....it sounds like you were looking at stone or cast concrete surrounds. I initially thought that is what I wanted as well, until we got into the build process and it didn't seem to go with the tone of what we were doing. Our fireplace is very prominent in our house, basically the front door opens into the foyer and the family room with the fireplace on the opposite wall is what you first see. I wanted something with presence and heft, that would help showcase our dd's portrait. Our trim carpenter and designer and I came up with this and I love it. It wasn't expensive relatively, since it was paint grade wood, and I think it looks appropriate scale-wise and with the marble. Maybe you could do an overmantle like this up to your sloped ceiling?
