Steve, I have a similar bed (well, part of a bed) and in it I put snapdragons. I also found that some annual rudbeckias do well there (although they would probably do better in full sun). I also found out by accident (otherwise known as reseeding from clear across the yard, lol) that chinese asters don't do so badly in part shade either. Sorry I'm only coming up with annuals, not perennials. I'm surprised your lilies are leaning. I've grown some in quite shady spots that do well. Actually, I put a crate or two of lilies in almost full shade last year to stagger bloom times with the crates I had in the sun, and they did just as well as the lilies in the sun. I've had some phlox paniculata in part shade that does okay. Perhaps some hydrangeas for cutting? :) Dee

Well, there are lots of long blooming annuals--multi-stemmed sun flower, zinnias, cosmos for example, but no idea how they would do in HI. Then add in some shrubs that are well suited to cutting, some of the exotic tender blooming plants, and some bulbs to round things out. For year round flowers you would probably need a variety of different types of plants.

Coreopsis is a great cut flower--very summery and wildflowery looking. All flowers should have all foliage below the water line and most above removed for long vase life. Cut the stems on a diagonal, as mentioned above, and put them in water up to their necks for a couple of hours or overnight. Then arrange in clean water. I keep cheap old vases from the florist for the conditioning phase. You can keep most flowers for a week this way and I have gotten over two weeks from many. Just change the water and recut the stems a bit. And clean all your vases with bleach, soap and hot water. Bacteria kills flowers fast.

I have a dianthus that's almost a carnation in looks (and I just discovered that carnations are a version of dianthus!) that's in the corner of my garden and has survived the last two winters. They don't have long stems, but would be nice in a small short vase AND they smell pretty. I don't remember the flowering times, though. Marigolds are pretty hardy and the flowers last a while, if I remember correctly, and they'll take the heat and supposedly help keep some pests off of your tomatoes if you plant them together. Gerber daisies are pretty hardy, too. Except for the cold. I'd suggest Earthkind roses, but they typically don't do well as cut flowers, they don't last long. I hope someone else has better ideas, because I'd love to have cut flowers, too!
