I think I will spring for Glass Eye standard, its 150. It tells me exactly how much I will need in terms of supplies and just love using it, very easy and intuitive. I am working on some stuff. I did the whole tutorial though for it. the 30 day trial is free. You can focus on different things and think it would be fun to learn to make kaleidoscopes!

CAC, So sorry to hear about your step-dad. I can sympathize with you about no elevator. When we found out my dad's cancer had spread to his lungs my SIL and I would alternate going to his chemo treatments with my mom so we could drop them off at the door and go park the car. As his health worsened he ended up needing oxygen and the medical supply company dropped off the machine and one portable tank and they were going to deliver more oxygen the next day. Wouldn't you know it that night they delivered the oxygen machine for him we had a terrible rainstorm and we lost power. My mom called us up at midnight in a panic because they lost power too and didn't have electricity to power the oxygen machine and the small portable one they had wasn't full and he only had a couple of hours of oxygen left in it. My hubby is in the air compressor business and we had a generator but our only problem was that it was in a storage unit where they lock the gates at 8:00 pm and we couldn't get ahold of anyone to open the gate for us so we could get the generator. Fortunately, Home Depot had recently opened a brand new 24 hour store about a mile from us AND they had not lost power, so they were open. My hubby and I went and we bought a brand new $600 generator which was the cheapest they had even though it had a big sign over it that clearly stated that it could NOT be returned (what choice did we have? My dad needed oxygen!) and then we had to find a gas station that had power and was open which took quite some time but we finally found one, got the gas and went to the senior apartment building where my parents lived and hauled that frickin' generator up five flights of stairs in the dark with only a small flashlight to see where we were going. Then we had to set up the generator using the same flashlight which by now was not burning as brightly as it had because my hubby and I are big (ok we are fat and out of shape) so it took us a while to get up those steps to their apartment. We finally got the generator up and running the oxygen machine just as his portable oxygen tank ran out! Phew...we were sweating bullets by then! Fortunately, power was restored early the next morning and when we talked to a sympathetic worker at Home Depot they allowed us to return the generator!!! BTW...I love your stuff and good luck getting the gorilla glue off! Barb

Thank you guys so much for your compliments and encouragement. I'm just loving working with glass and like so many of you said, I'm so glad I decided to take the class. Hazie - I think I will be like you, in that mosaics will always be my favorite. The class has helped me get used to working with glass and all the tools that go along with it, which is helpful for mosaics, too. You need a LOT more tools for working with glass (than with plates), but that's okay, cause I just love tools. Crazy, huh. Oh, well - I know I'm in good company! LOL Oh, and I just finished my first mosaic piece with glass - a mushroom. I'll get a picture of it and post it tomorrow. Thanks again. I'm a little nervous about the whole soldering thing. Anybody have any tips to offer me? I'll start soldering in this Thursday night's class.

Hi there. I've been doing stained glass for many years. Yes, you can make a window this size using copper foil. I would suggest that you choose a wider foil. I have made some very large foil windows and have soldered copper wire, which bends and twists nicely, following the vertical lines of your pattern as reinforcement. If you are still hesitant, you can divide your pattern into 2 or even 4 and use perhaps an H zinc channel and design your pattern to carry through from one section to the next. It is not uncommon to combine both foil and H channels. Hope this helps and p-ost a picture when you're done!
