problems with sealer--help

This year I have painted some red striped candy canes on wood. I want them really shiny, so I bought gloss exterior varnish called Dura Gloss by DecoArt. When I put it on by brush, it makes the red run slightly. I have to stop immediately, let it dry, paint with satin varnish. Then I can cover this with the gloss varnish. Does anyone have a favorite ext., non yellowing, gloss varnish to recommend? When I finish this question to you, I think I will email deco art.

let your project cure alittle longer. red is bad to do that. I spray all most all my projects w/ wal mart clear (cheap) spray paint and they never yellow even my outdoor stuff.

I have never had that happen with paint but when I use ink and cheaper spray, it runs. I only use Krylon Kamar, gloss, or Matte spray. Never had a run with it.
