I ordered a couple books!

I got an email from Artists Club and was browsing. Decided I just had to have a couple of Renee Mullin's books! I have more patterns now than I'll ever use--but these just called to me! LOL Maybe the new books will be just the thing to get me motivated and painting again. Let's hope so anyway.

I hate to order things--the postage is just ridiculous IMHO. Sorts if negates any savings from buying a sale item! Haven't told DH, I'm sure he will say "you don't need more books!" and that's true enough. Need and want just aren't the same things though, right? LOL

New books and ideas are so much fun! You probably can't wait to get them!

We must be in book mode because I too just recently ordered more painting books from some of my favorite discount sites. I also found some great books at Half Price Books the other day (love that store). Life is good!

Luvs....hope your books have arrived and you are painting, painting, painting!

Kraftymom....so nice that you actually have a STORE that has books. I do the online shopping and even know where I can get more than the cover pictures.

Now, all I need to do is move to the North Pole so I can hibernate in a little igloo and paint.

RE: I ordered a couple books!

Belle,

Even though I do find some great books at Half Price, I have always purchased the majority of my books on-line and have multiple sites where I can go to both purchase at discounted/sale prices and look inside the books before I buy them. I do not like to buy a book without being able to peek inside first. The multiple sites help because I am usually looking for authors that are not so common and when looking for inside pics at least one of my bookmarked sites will usually have them.
I pay on average $2 a book from the sites I shop and try to keep it under $4. Amazon is the worst when it comes to shipping so I try not to go there unless they have a hard-to-find book I just can't find anywhere else, I usually get better prices elsewhere.
The books I just recently ordered were all books on wildlife and birds, got them all for $4 or less and as mentioned above some of the authors would probably not be well known to a lot of decorative painters. Usually when I list names on decorative painting boards of authors I have people ask 'who'? LOL

I like your idea of an igloo at The North Pole. There would be some awesome wildlife there to paint!

OK...we need to share some sites! I have listed some sites that I use, some for buying and some for searches.

Just to show you my non painting part of the world. We have a 16 mile long garage sale on Sat., and I had my painting books out, not one book sold and I think there was only about 3 people who even stopped to flip through the top two or three books. No painters here!!!

For pics I also use:

https://www.decorativepaintingstore.com

The Decorative Painting Store has a more extensive search for authors and pics here....

http://www.cabincrafters.com

http://www.toletallytreasures.com

and http://boutique.legrenierdeveronique.com/

For purchases:

Half Price Books

I do search both Amazon.com and Alibris.com for hard-to-find or discontinued publications if it's a 'must have' book and can't find it anywhere else.

http://www.painting-books.com

https://www.decorativepaintingstore.com

http://www.viking-publications.com/ (they have a new sale every 2 months offering books at $2 each)

and Artists Club occasionally. I have been a customer of their's ever since I can remember but I don't buy from them much anymore. Their clearance isn't what it used to be when I could get books for .99-$1.99

RE: I ordered a couple books!

After being on garden web in the home forum for about a year I just came across the decorative painting one. Kraftymom thanks so much you listed my website above as one of your sources. :)

KM.........Thanks for the sites!!!! I will be checking them out very soon.

Some years back The Artist Club had a retail store in Vancouver, WA., which is only about 80 miles from me and the great part was they had two really, really big sales per year. You could get books with small folds or tares for a buck, and all wood surfaces for pennies on the dollar. It was well worth the trip. Sad to say....they closed the shop except for quilters and scrapbookers. Tuttles Touches by Mary Jo Tuttle, was one of their store employees.

Anyway...thanks again!

Belle,

I was familiar with their Vancouver store. Even though I live in the Seattle area I would plan a special trip every time I was in that part of the state or was going to Oregon. I remember getting the e-mail telling me they were moving the distributing center. I think a lot of it had to do with growth and not enough space.

Do you remember way back in their early days when they had their on-line weekly/monthly drawings? I won one of those $100 shopping sprees, I was in 7th heaven! (I never win anything). lol
