Painting patio pavers

Hello. I'm looking for some advice. We have an old pool house we're trying to resurrect. The pool house floor and outside perimeter are old yellowish brick patio pavers. Im painting the outside of the pool house more on the sophisticated side. Thinking Maybe conservative olive green (to blend with the wooded area behind) with a sandy tan color on the block foundation. Or perhaps a charcoal foundation and nice crisp clean (but boring) white. The inside Im going crazy with your typical tropical theme. Im going to mural hibiscus, some palm, maybe even some flip flops/surf boards etc.

So what I need is advice on is how to paint those ugly old pavers? Do I use garage floor paint? I was thinking after its painted I would let my kids dip their feet in paint and walk footprints in different colors over the painted pavers (maybe leading away from some painted flip flops). The area is covered and will be screened in. So it does not need weather protection as much as foot traffic protection.

I read through some of the threads today and you are a very talented bunch. So Im hoping for some great ideas! Right now the whole area is a Holy Mess! But the goal is to have a tropical paradise by July.

Hi Ladygabe, sounds like you have some great ideas for the rehab of your pool house. I'd think the paint for garage floors would be the way to go since it's made for that kind of thing. You'll need something like that to hold up to the wet footprints and such. Good luck with your project, I'm sure it will get you many years of enjoyment. Luvs

Thanks for your reply Luvs. Just need the weather to stay consistent so I can really get started. Its either been to rainy or too hot to paint according to the directions.

I don't have any advise but am so excited to see your finished project. Sounds like alot of work ahead but I like what your coming up with for ideas on this. Glad to have you here posting with us.

Ladygabe, great ideas and I like the garage floor paint instead of concrete paint, but you might check with a good paint store about a sealer. We used one on our garage floor and it has survived for about 15 years. But as times change so does paint, newer paints might have a sealer in the mix.

Be sure to take lots of before and after shots to share. And what about your mural? Are you doing the painting?
