Hi Vicki. I live just south of the Seattle city limits. I went down to see the arrival of the Olypmic torch yesterday by tug if that gives you any indication. I've been to Puyallup many times (the Fairs you know - love that Victorian Christmas fair). I'm sort of a hop-skip-and a jump from just about everywhere at my location in both directions. I used to work in Tacoma myself some years ago.

Anyway, Dewberry is on both Ch 9 out of Seattle and Ch 28 out of Tacoma. Her next show is Jan. 26th at 2:30pm (this Saturday). Today at 12.30pm Paint! Paint! Paint! is on Ch 28 (or Ch.12 depending on your cable). I'm not sure what today's show is on. It will air again on Jan. 31 at 12:30pm. I believe the show on the 31st is on tools & techniques for faux finishes. Just go to PBS on line, look up both stations and you can get the schedules and airing times for those shows. I just printed out their schedules.

It's nice to find other so close by, I'm in Tacoma. I just saw her on tv Sunday and then got an e-mail from Ben Franklin that they were having one stroke classes. I went to the first class last night and let me tell you, it was fun but a pro I won't be over night!

Good for you tacomab! It is fun. Being someone who's painted for a long time it took me a while to 'adjust' to her way of painting. Even though I enjoy trying new styles and methods of painting I'm from the old school and still enjoy doing traditional shading & highlighting with most projects. But her style sure makes doing a large number of items for a craft bazaar or other event a lot easier! I try to incorporate different methods and styles of painting on projects and hers was just one more for me to learn. As a painter there is always something new out there.
Donna's binder series finally got me to paint something I've always wanted to do but was afraid to try - a landscape. With the landscapes in her binder series and the help of Frank Clark's free web lessons at http://www.simplypainting.com/htms/lessons/lessons.htm , I finally understood how to begin such a project. I just never really knew the order of where or how to start! Anyway, for the first time after all of these years I painted my first seascape complete with lighthouse, beach, and a boat on the water. I even amazed myself! :-)

If anyone is interested in painting any kind of landscape I would recommend checking out Frank Clark's site. I found it very useful.

This is my first attempt to paint anything other than walls, ceilings and the like. My mother was a quite accomplished artist, I have never tried but was really frustrated seeing all the different projects that people have done on the web and I had not a clue how to do it. I have been practicing tonight but I am finding that I tend to be quite heavy handed. I would love to do landscapes but at the moment I am having a terrible time just painting leaves. I think part of the problem at the moment is the loading of the brush. It seemed the longer I worked at it the leaves started to look better. I imagine that once you get the hang of painting it will be like most other crafts you have too try it all. Congrats on your landscape! That must have felt great to accomplish something like that. I will check out the site you mentioned. Here's to a brush full of paint. Do you think we will see any of the snow this weekend that they are talking about?

tacomab wow you went to a one stroke class, good for you, I have been painting the traditional way for many years and I find it is difficult to get enough paint in the brush. I will continue to practice and watch the videos, they are a real inspiration for me.
Kraftymom, congrats too on the landscape, I have painted many lighthouses and "non detailed" landscapes especially on driftwood, used to live at the beach and that type of product was very popular at craft bazaars. I will check out the site you gave, like I said my landscapes were crafty not of artist quality. thanks
If it does snow I hope it is enough that the roads don't just ice over a small snowfall, maybe it will keep some of the creative drivers off the road. But I doubt that a couple of years ago it did ice over and it took us 1 1/2 hours to go 9 miles. Oh well it should be pretty, sounds like a nice landscape to paint, snow.

LOL! I wouldn't consider my first landscape 'artist quality'. AND of all things I painted it on a plastic beach bucket for my daughter to use at Girl Scout day camp!! But by using Frank Clark's helpful phrase 'Have Some More Fun' which refers to the order in which you put a landscape together (Have = horizon, Some = sky, More = middleground, Fun = foreground) and Donna's easy way of applying the color, I actually found painting the landscape easier than painting Donna's flowers!
Like you Vicki, I've been painting the traditional way for many years and old habits are hard to break. But the combo of the info from these 2 artists seem to have finally broken the 'DUH' barrier.

Vicki, you don't sound like you're to far from Bonney Lake, ome on up and have a fun, frutrating evening with us. The classes are Weenesday nights, 2 sessions for $25.00. hey the more the merrier. I guess I figured I needed a new challenge this year. I really want to do some concrete crafts or maybe better put - crafts out of concrete but the weather is just not right for that at the moment so painting seemed like something that would keep me busy, mostly at the moment frustrated but that will pass. I plan this weekend to play in the snow that they have said was coming and practice my strokes. I even invited the grandkids for a sleep over tonight so that I would have someone to fo sledding with just in case the now did come.lol
