I remember why

I quit posting some time ago, even tho I would occasionally pop in to lurk.

Another poster (cooking?) remarked that a photo had been used by ivillage without her permission. I remember now that when ivilliage took over that was one of the provisions of this site. Anything posted including pictures is up for grabs by ivilliage....read below #7 of Terms of Service.

Yes, I was aware of that--it's not a secret, they tell you right up front when you join. I am constantly amazed that people join and then are surprised later by the terms they've agreed to!

As for me, everything I paint is usually from a published pattern that anyone could find if they wanted it. I only use my items for personal use or gifts. In fact, I would probably be very flattered if Gardenweb ever thought anything I did was good enough to publish elsewhere. LOL

For anyone doing original artwork that you would not want used by someone else, you might want to be discriminate about what you post here or elsewhere on the World Wide Web.

Gardenweb gives us a FREE forum to chat and share pictures if we choose to do so. I really enjoy the forums and have no problems with the terms of service.

Luvs, most of my work is not from other patterns. It is original and I would not want it published anywhere without my consent. I do agree that being discriminate about what and where I post is important.

I DID READ the agreement but had forgotten the rules since it had been a long time since I had posted. I should have looked again at the terms before posting any pics.

I also like the forums and have no problem with terms of service, I will just have to remember not to post any more paintings!

Rhonda~ too bad cause we'll miss seeing your paintings, but I totally understand.
I'm with Luvs, I am usually using someone else's patterns for what I paint so I don't give a fig, but if it was my original I'd want it protected.

Thanks Anj. I will stick to posting non-original works. Maybe I can find some of my tole type paintings also.

When I teach, I generally use a pattern from books, although I do not copy or distribute copies of the pattern. I simply show the student how to create the work on canvas. And I have done workshops that were specific, such as water related -- waterfalls, winding creeks, rocks, ocean waves, etc.

Calirose, we'd love to see your tole type paintings. You are so talented to be able to do both. Please share what you can, and we understand about your need to protect your originals. Luvs
