a strange bird?

Hi Folks~

Well, my SD invited my Mom to church. That sounds like a nice thing. My Mom couldn't go.

What I didn't like, however, is that my SD sends me an email telling me my email has a virus and is sending out those phony messages about computers, but she doesn't tell me she called my Mother to talk to her.

Don't you think she is a strange bird?

Nope, I don't think much about it at all.

Nice of her to let you know your computer might be off whack though.

I don't tell anyone, spouse included, absolutely every thing I do at all times either...it's not a 'secret', just not always news worthy. If I called his mother to chat, usually never mentioned it (she has passed on now)unless it was something I felt was important to repeat. If his son, my SS, calls, I might mention it, might not. I don't necessarily think I must report to anyone else exactly every movement and/or thought I have.

What's the big deal? I assume your SD would have gotten around to it eventually or figured you'd hear about it from your mother yourself when you talk to Mom. While it might be your mother, you can't control everybody Mom talks to nor should Mom tell you immediately just because someone you know calls/invites her.

Speaking of 'birds', if you're into celebrating the upcoming holidays, Happy Thanksgiving to you, Thurman.

"speaking of birds", justmetoo, too funny....

She is in her 30s, your mom is elderly, so if they call each other it is not necessarily something to report to you. They are adults. Not a big deal.

Jean, the beginning of that recording is the first sound I hear every morning (at 5:10am today). I never knew it was a robin, until I went out one morning and actually saw it up in one of our trees. The last sound I've heard from a young robin that has been hanging around our yard. Every time the cat goes out to help me garden, there he is up in the tree, saying, "Incoming kitty! INCOMING KITTY!" LOL I'm sorry you had to deal with that situation, too, Bonz. I haven't had any nest raiders lately, but a couple years ago, I saw some combat between (get this) a hummingbird and a scrub jay. It seemed the jay invited himself to a party where he wasn't welcome. The hummer ran him off like nobody's business! Unfortunately, we also find some baby sparrows that have fallen out of their nests over night. Those are the ones I can't save, and I always get pretty bummed out when I find them in the morning. :( Brenda

Hi Nancy, I bought new birdfeeders today. I was in the States for the day (I'm from Canada) and so I decided to checkout Lowes and got feeders with metal perches. Funny thing about animals - you really can't tell what's on their minds when they do what they do..so for me to make sense of this is probably futile. And you are probably right in that large birds may have caused the damage -- yet I cannot explain why the cuts occur at the point the perch enters the tube and why the rest of the perch do not have any bite marks. These are relatively new tubes. One a year old and other just recently purchased. The perches are pretty strong I can't snap them in half. If it had been squirrels, the tubes by now would have been damaged. They remain intact and for added protection I had greased the poles. Mice, raccoons or squirrels will have to do heck of a pole dance to make it up that pole. I won't throw away my older feeders. I would like to still use them if I can locate rods of similar width to replace the perches. or as you said, enlarge the holes by drilling and get branches.

You guys, the first launch I ever saw I was in Melborne on the beach at 6:30 in the morning with a bunch of on-line friends that decided to get together from all over the US, Canada and the UK! We all had terrible hangovers from the 3am partying the night before. I actually went in the ocean around midnight with all my clothes ON! The sight and sound that morning was most spectacular and did a lot to really sober us up. It was an awesome thrill to share with all these friends. The next day, the couple from England and I went to the space center, the rocket garden, etc. It was fascinating!

I found it. I thought it looked like a pheasant but nothing we have here. Your bird is FAR from home. It is the white-crested kalij pheasant. It is native to the Himalayan mountains. The kalij pheasant was also introduced to Hawaii in the 1960s.

I talk to DH's family without telling him. If it comes up, it comes up. My DD called DH's aunt (like a mom to him) to ask her to come to a performance with her. And no, DH was not invited. DD is 8.

We figure, the more people who get along in the family and have healthy independent relationships, the less we have to "babysit" people's emotions.

People irritate me too Thurman. There are several in my family. Make nice, and move on...
