Ann - Eye surgery is on my list of things to do someday (when I have some spare money laying around) so I envy you a bit. Won't it be nice to see clearly again! You should plan a visit to a garden when it's done to celebrate and enjoy how well you can see. We cleaned out some very thorny brush in the fencerow over the weekend. My neighbor's black locust sends up shoots from its roots and I hadn't cut those back for awhile. The thorns on those things are HUGE. We lost a couple hedge trees in the ice storm in '07 that are still sending up thorny shoots from the stumps as well. After the ice storm, we used a tractor to pull out the stumps from a couple other hedge trees and should've done that with all of them but there was just sooo much clean up to do at the time and it didn't get entirely finished. There were lots of other little scrub trees coming up that needed to be cut out and weeds of course. It sure looks a lot nicer now. Hope everyone had a good weekend. It is a great one for me because it is cloudy and drizzly, and I can take a day off. Isn't that what we are supposed to do on LABOR Day- take the day off?????

What I did myself: Luxury vinyl plank install (I did that originally 5 years ago, I just filled in/replaced some planks for the new kitchen layout) Electrical (ceiling and under-cabinet lights, isolate appliances on circuits, move electric range) Drywall finish and painting (my ceiling swirls are by no means of professional caliber, but I can live with that) Design and layout (with some help from GW :)!) What I did with the help of a semi-pro (my father): Plumbing (move dishwasher to other side of sink and hook up new sink, faucet, and garbage disposal) Backsplash tile Framing larger opening and exterior hood vent Cabinet removal and new cabinet install What I left to true professionals: Quartz countertop install (I didn't want to lift 500+lbs of fragile stone) Cabinet building (I wanted the bulk of the remodel done in less than a month and I didn't want to spend my free time building my own cabinets when I have a full time job, a part time job, and a toddler) My husband helped by getting lemonade and vacuuming. He is not a DIY guy,. I'm an engineer. I took a week off of work and then spent a some time on evenings (after bedtime) and weekends to work on the kitchen. Demo started on 7/31/17. Left on my list of tasks is: Paint ceiling (I'm putting this off because I can't just stop at the kitchen) Replace baseboards Put trim around window over sink Touch up paint Get new curtains for the big windows Put molding between the cabinets and the ceiling Build vertical pan storage in cabinet next to sink Adjust position of roll-outs in pantry I really enjoy remodeling projects, and I'm pretty sure I found a good balance of time and money spent with the amount I put into doing it myself.
