Stepson scares me

Help! My 17 year old stepson scares me. I have been in his life for 10 years and have tried to bond with him. However, I must admit I really do not like this boy. He is very strange. He does not have any interests or friends. When I talk to his Dad about it he says he is fine. I think he is depressed but his father ignores it.

I find him staring at me all the time and he gives me the creeps!!! I will be watching TV and I will see him in the TV's reflection just standing behind me staring. When we eat dinner he just stares at me. I always find him hanging around me just staring at me. I refuse to be at home alone with him. I try to do things away from home when he is with us every other weekend. I have thought about divorcing his father but he is almost 18 and I can't wait until he isn't here every other weekend. He also creeps out his older brother. He has said sexual comments to his brother's girlfriend on several occassions.

This has really created problems in our marriage. I understand this is my husband's son - but the kid is just strange and he scares me.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated!

Even for me as a man, that staring would creep me out as well.

WHen your personal safety is potentially affected, then you shoud :(1) discuss w the dad about your being real uncomfortable with his staring, so that he can observe it the next time , (2) this could be some hidden psychological problems, (3) after you both agree about the staring then you both should sit down and talk to SS. I would let the dad lead the charge here.

I would approach it from a non-accusing manner. Start out with comments like "most people feel very uncomfortable when being stared at, I think, you would feel the same, wouldn't you?" then to "is there any reasons that you stare at your step mom?".

Does he exhibit similar behaviors at school?

Sometimes guys (father) tend to be not sensitive to things like that, so you will have to express your concern, not in an accusatory manner but also for your own safety and the mental health of your SS. You could start the conversation w your h with statement like:

"When you have some time, I want to share with you something that has bothered me, I want to get your opinions in how to solve this". then "my concern might be unfounded, but I cannot seem to solve it myself, so I need you to help. I have noticed that XXX has stared at me, and perhaps it is nothing, but to me it feels quite strange and scared. So will you observe XXX and don't say anything to him yet, and tell me what you think." "Perhaps XXX is not aware of doing that, and that will impact his social interaction with others."

If your husb continues to brush it off, then make sure again that it is not about his son, but it is about you and your fear. You cannot continually living in that fear in your own home. If he ignores it again, then you have married the wrong man.

it does sound creepy! I would insist your husband talks to his son and this weird staring stops, it does not sound normal. I would keep insisting until something is done.

Oh the deer do get hunted here, by this four-wheeled species. You probably have some hunting where you live as well :-) Seriously, the various hazards tend to take out the older deer here and I usually see young deer only. Once I had a big buck, he was browsing much higher than the smaller deer. I put up my activated sprinkler last night and noticed it went on at some point in the night. I'm going to be moving it around regularly, keeping the deer on their toes. I had a greenhouse water timer unit I put on it so it won't accidentally spray me during the day when there are no deer. Al, I have 1000' of 8' deer fence that I have been sitting on if things get too bad. Its a pain having the whole yard fenced in but I may be going there. I already have one side fenced, its the woods side that deer usually come from. Konrad, I wonder if the sound of the metal alone would scare them enough. I don't want to make too loud a sound but the metal falling would cause the ground to shake I bet. Scott

I would agree with some posts that mom should take the primary role of discipline. I do not discipline my skids. I'll verbally tell them off if they talk back to me but they clearly know i'm a fair person and i just do not take anyone cr*p including their dads...lol... I butt heads with stepdaughter but not directly. Its what she says to her dad that i just get up in arms. demanding that we do not do anythign until she visits...so i told my dh...so your son and our son will suffer and be bored until she decides to comedown to visit and will only visit if we are 'doing ' a trip outting??? how shallow is that???? he thanks God told her that regardless whether she was here or not plans will be made and that she will just miss them if she is not here. And he said this ot her before i gave my opinion so i'm glad that this values are instigated. Its not fair to my SS or son that they miss out on a trip because she decided to be withher friends....i'm ranting....sorry. Yah, about the divorce line, kids say the darndest things. You know , even when things are going great here in my household, a few years back at the beginning of the relationship, the kids would do this. THey would pop up saying out of the blue if my dh would get back togheter with mom....i think its just the kids are having a good fun time and it reminds them of what they had in thepast and i dont think you should think too much of it...i know it hurts...and you feel...wtf? what am i doing wrong? You doing nothing wrong...its just an innocent child expressing something , a need, they clearly do not fully understand. Continue with the positive reinforcement, step back onthe discipline and let mom spank her child. I'm old school as well and believe that a little spank when things get out of hand needs to be dealt with but i do not believe in spankingother peoples children. I wouldn't want my child spanked by stepmom or stepdad or even aunt, uncle etc... My SD slapped my sons hand for doing something bad. I told her, no, you do not discipline, its my job and my job only wth your dad. You are not an adult. (biomom places her as the discipline for her younger brother so she assumes the role with no thought) I know your mom places you inthe position but under my roof you will not have that title. She never did it again and i think she is happy in not feeling responsible. I do not beleive in placing such responsibility on a child shoulders..they should concentrate onlearning,,having fun and being a kid.

Roselee the “thing” that stuck to my glove was definitely white, I shook it off my hand but I think in the process hairs flew up my nose. The inside of my right nostril is still burning but lightly. I went back to trimming. I have 3 more clumps to do and then I’ll go watch mindless TV. Eons ago, I befriended the owner of a rose Nursery in my area. It was a husband and wife biz. So hardworking and such Plant and nature lovers. Wife got very sick, requiring organ transplantation. At the first sign of recovery she started making her potting mix, which included bat guano. Bacteria got into one of those cuts that gardeners get, especially rose gardeners, and with a weak immune system, She went downhill and died fast. Drs were out of their minds b/c they were focusing on transplant complications and nothing showed. It wasn’t til autopsy that they put 2+2 together and lab indentified bacteria that typically resides in bat guano. I have never been able to forget that story and always tell DH that if something happens and I can’t speak, to insist DRs consider gardening bacteria, Poisoning. Etc. I was freaked out this morning. Ha. i need to go. It’s getting windy and I don’t want more cr@p flying up my nose. Be cautious out there.

I couldn't find your New York poster in a canvas, but I found something similar. I changed your pillows to coordinate with it. Don't try to fill a wall by hanging artwork randomly spaced out. And eliminate anything that serves no purpose other than to fill space like those medallion things. Here is your smaller swatch painted on the wall. I assume that SS is still in school. If not, that's another question. I suspect SS has issues, and Dad should look to pediatrician or school GC for a referal for an evaluation. Good luck.

I think I would file an unofficial report with the police. Put in the records that you are afraid of him and if anything happens to you they should check his alibi. Sounds crazy doesn't it? Well, it is crazy, just like it's crazy for a 17 year old to behave this way and crazy of you to stay in the house with this guy. The father will never acknowledge there is a problem.
