WOW, that is all that I can say. I wish that someone could have mentioned to julie that composting pet waste is not a bad thing if it is done correctly. Cat poo isn't the end of the world, luckily my cat is an outdoor cat but has zoned his cat box to me at the back fence planting area (just ivy). I would rather teach my daughter rationality by speaking with my neighbor before getting so upset. I have a neighbor who could put julie to shame, her lawn is so nice even I want to play in it=) I guess it takes all shapes and sizes to make up this beautiful world. I hope she realizes that the wealth pile she is standing on will eventually decompose and she will be right here with the rest of us composting geniuses.

Lambic, First let me say that it's not true than no one else has had the problem I have...with the broil element coming on during the bake cycle, and over-browning the food being baked. I read about it at least twice when I first had this oven installed, exactly the same as I was experiencing. However, on another thread someone suggested that perhaps the bake element (lower, under the oven floor) wasn't functioning and the broil element was attempting to maintain the temperature without assistance. That sounded so plausible, and would have explained everything, but when my husband tested the oven this morning, he said the lower element was definitely working. I was so disappointed... However, the bread dough proofing feature does not work at all (didn't matter to me) so I'm using that as an excuse to get a serviceperson out here and at the same time hoping to get some insight into the main problem with this oven. KA would not send someone out for that, saying it was "normal". I'll keep you all posted on this. Carly

As to the title, I thought that it was somewhat improper, but figured that changing the Richard to Dick ... and both that and the "dead" beginning with "d", and being four-letter words, that it fit. And - it certainly targetted a good(?) portion of the conversation in the other thread. And I thought that there was some poetic justice in the confirmation being the last word - thought that would make Richard laugh! On the next day, I could access the site ... but when I tried to open the box to make a comment ... I was rejected. I went to my emails, to see whether I'd received another "gentle reminder" ... but no such message was evident. I wondered about writing to Tammy to request info, or object, etc. ... and wondered about signing in with another name, supposing that I might be allowed. - but didn't. On the following day, I could access as usual, so wonder what was going on. I haven't heard of someone being blocked for a day, and with no explanation, so it may have been some glitch in the system (probably was). Of such is life, I guess. ole joyful

If you go looking at beam tables you will not find any for large span steel or even wood beams that do not require a load value to be computed. The actual sizing of beams ONCE THE LOAD IS KNOWN is pretty simple. Computing the load is always the issue. This is a perfect example of GOGO (Garbage In, Garbage Out). Make a mistake in the load calculation and the beam will be sized incorrectly, and regretfully the most common error is to UNDERSIZE by missing loads. Just as an example, to size a door header in a two story house requires accounting for the second floor loads above the header, and the roof loads since they are transfered to the wall also. The load values are done at the design values of 30 PSF live + 10 PSF dead for the second floor, while the roof load includes the roof itself AND the snow loads and sometimes even wind loads, pitch corrections may also be required.
