Should I...or should I not?

My (2) middle SS ( they are 24 & 25 yrs old) got their girlfriends pregnant ( they both have decided that marriage is not for them at this time...isn't that nice). They are due a week apart,coming up very soon ( did they plan this?). I 've only been in the family for the past 3 1/2 yrs ( I'm the 4th wife...eeeks I know).I started to learn to knit so I can make them each a baby blanket ( even though I 'm not on board with the whole thing...but I'm just the 4th wife with nothin to say). Well my question is the one SS (I don't feel that we have hit it off since I 've been in the picture), I have called him twice for some help on something else I'm working on and just needed to ask him a couple of questions ( would take maybe 10-15 min of his time). He hasn't bothered to call me back and has told my DH that he's been really busy and hasn't had time,but he will. That was a couple of weeks ago...I haven't finished his blanket. Should I....I'm probably being stupid. I see my DH and my MIL showering these people with expensive gifts, but he can't call me back????

You should - after all, you took on the task of learning to knit so you could give a meaningful gift to this SS's baby. Your heart was in the right place then -- and, as hard as it may be, you should try to keep it in that place. Remember, this gift is for the baby -- not your SS. And the baby's Mom may really appreciate it, even if the SS doesn't.

I agree with lady q, gift is for the baby not SS. Nice of you to learn how to knit. And babies will enjoy warm blankets.

But I know how you fell...I sometimes feel like I don't want to buy gifts or make anything for older SD because she never bothers to get anything (or at least anything remotely decent) for anyone. But the thing is that she is like this with everyone, not bothering much with doing things for people, not just me. In fact she is nicer to me than to many other people in her family, so it is what it is. Can't change them.

By the my SD is also expecting. I already sent gifts too. I am not knitting though. :)

There are professional style 24"gas ranges, the best being Bluestar, but they're very expensive. I don't like the cheap Summit or Brown ranges. Avanti makes cheap 24" ranges that well, are perhaps O.K. - there are many different models, and some seem very cheap and flimsy- the pricier models seem somewhat better- Perhaps a better gas range for the $$ is Italian and goes under several names with minor differences. Different brands import them under different names. Avanti used to market it as the "Elba" DG2401C- Some online store called Sam's sells 'reconditioned' ones for about $1,000. A place called Rainbow lists it for much more. Delonghi also sells a similar range,Model: DEFSGG24SS or did at one time.- not sure if they're available any more. It's also known as the Verona VEFSGG244SS- Amazon sells it for about $1,830. Fisher Paykel also sells a similar range at a premium price. Fisher Paykel OR24SDMBGX2- $1850 or more. Bertazzoni sells their own gas range for about $2,000.

I agree with all of you: they're definitely Hollywood Regency. And I should recharacterize my own style, which is probably better said to be "*in* transition" rather than transitional. (: I do like clean-lined pieces, and our DR set is very Mission; the adjacent LR combines Mission and Art Deco; and our bedroom, where these chairs would go, is your basic Recovering Graduate Student/Random Wedding Present room. So funky/eclectic would fit in just fine there. And there's just something about these chairs... The room is a long rectangle. The half without windows is for the bed (not a bed per se, but rather mattresses on a metal frame) and the dressers, which are mismatched yard sale finds. On the other side of the room, I'd like to create a sitting/reading area next to the windows, with a gorgeous view of the mountains (by far the nicest thing about the room!). We got a red and tan handloomed Peruvian folk-art rug for our wedding, and that's what we'll use to set off the seating area. Also on that side of the room, framing one window, are some slender dark walnut modern-styled bookcases. And then the part I'd like to replace: a heinously ugly loveseat that a friend gave us, also on that side of the room. I'd much rather find some reading chairs and an ottoman than a loveseat anyway; the room's not that big, and the loveseat makes it a pain to open and close the curtains and shades. I agree these chairs don't look too comfortable, so they're probably not my ideal reading chairs. But they'd be good for draping the bathrobe or pulling into the LR for extra seating. I love the idea of velvet, and maybe even the box-pleated skirt -- hadn't thought of that, cool idea, thank you! I agree that they're great in a pattern, but I don't want lots of patterns clashing in my bedroom, I don't think. What would you think of a tan velvet on the back and the bottom of the seat, and then the top, round seat cushion in something like this: Here is a link that might be useful: I'd use this pillow cover to reupholster the seat...

Oh you guys...always the voice of reason. I just want to buy some thing and make my problem go away. The thought of finding an electrician and a dry wall guy...ick. Fly, it may be a beam, but I am not sure. I suppose we should get out the prints and look. Yes, I am getting new counters. Right...LEED is down the drain on this one. Great that the materials are made within 100 miles....but what about if you have to ship it twice and dump the bad one in the landfill? Maybe I can get them to take it back to the factory, grind it up and re-recycle it. Tile is anybody's guess. I will go into the big city (well, the medium big city!) and visit some showrooms this week if I can. I am leaning back toward Oceanside like I had in the last house. Their iridescence is subtler than the Sicis and I think it will be easier to live with in my bright, sunny kitchen. Parma, I think that would make me crazy, having the light fixture off center. I agree with what others have said...they just don't wanna. I found that at the end of the build, I had so little energy left to fight. Big (contractual) things were going very wrong and I let go. pictures of the rest of the room would be helpful. But based on this photo alone, I'd replace the mantel with a plain, streamlined bulky mantel (like a beam) either dark stained or black. AND running the length of the brick not just over the offset firebox.

Thanks you guys for the "listening". It really does help me to see that yes, it is for the baby and not really for the parents. I don't really think the parents are going to appreciate it as much, that's just kinda how they roll.

That's what we keep saying about older SD and her DH, that's how they roll. We'll be doing stuff because that's how we roll :)

my ex MIL made my DS a baby blanket -- he is not her grandchild. But I was really excited and it actually meant a lot to me and DD bc her grandmother did that for her baby brother. So I say make it. His girlfriend will love it no doubt. Men are like 'whatever' any way... Your SS probably has wierdness towards you bc you are wife # 4. I had weirdness towards SM bc she was sM #3 but it took me seeing her with my kids to realize she wasn't like the other and deserved a chance.

And try not to judge their situation. I actually would much rather people not marry bc of a baby. DH and I were not married when we had DS and I think if we would have rushed it bc we 'slipt up' and got caught doing what everyone else is already doing, we may have had problems. Babies are blessings no matter how they come in to this world ... Not being on board with the situation might be where SS doesn't want to really talk to you about it is coming from.
