Fantasy Fence WIP

FLAG sent me a fabulous website of garden art. It inspired me so much I have to jump on it. Riana and FLAG both have advised that I build a privacy fence around the swing patio. I can't do that - IMO it's not neighborly, but I CAN make a fantasy fence. After working very hard in the garden for two days in a row, I managed to muster enough energy to make Part I of the fence. There w/be five parts across the back of the swing area - different designs and sizes, and plants in between.

While I didn't see the Fantasy Fence pictures on the link, I sure caught up with your fountain project, Slow. It's wonderful. Did you find your Spanish tiles? And ANOTHER big project to work on. You must be so happy for that kind of inspiration....as if you NEED it! I'll be checking back to see it...of course!

Sigh.

RE: Fantasy Fence WIP

Got Part I creted today, and Part II, that I'd made a couple weeks ago, up and w/left over mortar from Part I, put a little mortar on it. Part II is made up of the role of lathe, w/the spikes - made by folding a square piece of lathe into a triange, then again in a triangle, and attaching to the column. The finial is an old amber glass globe to a pole lamp, wrapped w/copper tubing that I flattened w/a hammer, and wrapped four straps around it, bending some swirlies of the tubing on the top. It sits on a cap - little metal, beaded basket. Can't make too much of the photo - too tired to play w/the camera. W/take better pics when creted - perhaps on Monday - can't play tomorrow - going to a play tomorrow afternoon and dessert afterwards in honor of my best friend Becky's birthday. Again - Photobucket puzzles me - the photo is on the fourth row after last night's night shot of the fountain.

RE: Fantasy Fence WIP

As usual this is gonna fantastic!!! Glad yur back @ work, Have fun @ the party!!!

 o
RE: Fantasy Fence WIP - and

Thank y'all. Made a mistake - play next week. Added appliques to the fountain, and painted Part 1 of the fence. Not sure I like it - probably too busy - my usual overdoing it, but too tired to do anymore today. Think I can get away w/painting the fence floweers only - brushed on a thick layer of Mapei mortar slurry. EVERYTHING doesn't have to be mosaiced, says I - at this stage anyway. Photos are on first page - all mixed up - WHY is Photobucket not cooperating? Used to be all new photos were added to the front of the row.
Appliques to fountain and painted part one of fence

 o
RE: Fantasy Fence WIP

I love this saga, even with photo bucket acting up!

 o
RE: Fantasy Fence WIP

Looks good to me too! You added a couple of crosses to your fountain? And new candles I see, oh it looks great from here!!! Ya, what's with photo bucket eh? Picturetrail, that I use, is not impressing me either....
Anyhoo, I wonder what a giant iris would look like done the rhiana way.....or a echinacea...oh oh,,,a vine with flowers...oh Slow, you are Really onto something here!!!!

 o
RE: Fantasy Fence WIP

What fun to see all the amazing and gorgeous things you've been creating, Slow! Love your fountain and the fancy fence!

 o
RE: Fantasy Fence WIP

Slow - I'm too busy drooling over your fountain. That is one beautiful fountain. You sure are good working with the cement & lathe material. I love the color too. The fantasy fence will be perfect!

 o
RE: Fantasy Fence WIP

OH MY....SLOW!!! That is GORGEOUS!!...especially with the candles! I am in total awe! How do you get it all so perfectly structured and semetrical? That sounds dumb, I'm sure but I am horrible with angles and your angles are all so precise looking! Do you use a pattern? The color you picked for it is perfect also...it warms the soul. I love that color! I have a question....it looks so solid...if a child sat on the side would it crack? I have several little ones that come over a lot and I'd worry about that if I were to try something like this. I had to look through all your other pics also....still in love with your whole patio scene!

RE: Fantasy Fence WIP

Thank y'all very much. CALAM - the ideas we come up w/boggle my mind. Wish I could turn them off sometimes too. Soooooooo many possibilities. FIDDLE and CAC - thank y'all - the color and shape - I wanted it to look like a Spanish Mission, and think I achieved that look. I, too, like the color. I brushed on a watered down liquid concrete colorant from Lowes - terra cotta. Then I used a tad bit of brown powdered colorant here/there - the colorants in the Delphi pkg of 10. ADDIE: This thing is so strong. I stand on the lip all the time working on stuff. NO WAY is it gonna crack. When I had to enlarge the hole for the electrical cord, I used a screwdriver and hammer to chip it out. Believe me - this sucker is strong. Angles, symetrical, perfectly-structured??- hahahahahah - this thing is so full of flaws in that realm. When I point them out to whomever is admiring it at the time, they say nobody sees the imperfections but me, so I'm gonna relax about it. Yes, I drew the patterns on that heavy brown contractors paper from Lowes - folding it trying to get both sides the same, and then tried to cut it out perfectly, but no way can this technique turn out PERFECT. It's wonky in several places, but the overall look satisfies me. Nothing I do is ever perfect. Thanks again, y'all.

 o
RE: Fantasy Fence WIP

Slow, I sure love you fountain. I can only imagine how it sounds as you're sitting there in you swing early in the morn or in the evening.Peaceful I'm sure. Now your fence is looking smashing. Love it too. How many are there going to be??

RE: Fantasy Fence WIP

Dear Slow....regarding "making things perfect"....the Amish when making a quilt, make a jealousy square. That is because they believe that if they make it perfectly they will offend God. So I always tell people, I am just like the Amish...I build a jealousy square into everything I do so I don't offend God (when really, just want to have a great high fallutin' reason for having lots of mistakes in my stuff). :) Works every time.

 o
RE: Fantasy Fence WIP

Well how darlin' GARDEN: The Persian rugs are done the same way - an intentional mistake. Works for me. KAT - at this point, I plan one more "flower" then a couple planters in between for tallish plants. Leaving now to go to LA - Mo is sinking.

 o
RE: Fantasy Fence WIP

Hey Slow, why am I not seeing a fence anywhere? I keep going through the album and can't find one...am I blind? I love what you've done... your place must be amazing to wander through...

 o
RE: Fantasy Fence WIP

I've been looking for 3 weeks for the fence pics too. I think I finally figured out that the "fence" was the flower you created for now? How fun it is! I love all the colorful fantastical painting on it. You're saying "fence" though. Does that mean you're making others to join to it? Oh! I hope so, as it's so fun.

I've had some problems with Photobucket wanting to enter new pics somewhere later in the page too. You can easily rearrange the pics. Just look for their information and then you can drag and reposition them.

 o
Photos

Slow, just go to your Photobucket album and up there on the right where it says "slideshow" it also has "organize". Just hit that and then drag and drop your photos where you want them.

 o
RE: Fantasy Fence WIP

SLOW says were gonna see some progress photos tonight!! I for one can't wait......UUUUMMMMM!!!!

 o
RE: Fantasy Fence WIP

Almost forgot to take the picture. I could have done so much better on this mess, but I completely lost interest when I was interrupted and had to take trips to LA. Just want it finished b/f winter. It was cold today, but I got this far. The "flower" part on the ground was too heavy to go on the last stalk, so w/put it on a little post made up of leftover crete I've been putting in containers for a crazy post. I'll use it for a small planter in front of the swing patio. Have to come up w/something else to go on that last stalk. The copper around the glass globe to an old pole lamp was tubing hanging for years in the garage. I flattened it w/a hammer and put it as a holder for the globe. Meant to cover the aluminum wire that shows in beads, and might get to that later. The mosaiced planter on the right is covered w/mud from the rain - too cold for me to get the hose and wash it off. Don't know what I'll plant in those, nor what plants I'll put in the ground between the parts. Gotta work on a memory box of my Mo for Bro tomorrow. W/post the WIP shortly.
Today's progress

RE: Fantasy Fence WIP

SLOW: Yur Fantasy Fence is lookin pretty FANTASTIC!!!!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!!!!!! Love all the bright colors....very cool....thanks for posting an update

 o
RE: Fantasy Fence WIP

Another great project finished by the Queen of Quick. I am still creting mine and rounding up the rebar. Maybe I will get mine done in this year? You have done a good job on this, I really like the tree truck looking one. Maybe you will have to come finish mine for me?

 o
RE: Fantasy Fence WIP

Slow is an oxymoron for you... you are anything but slow!!!You should go be Fast&Furious!!!!! Great work

 o
RE: Fantasy Fence WIP

Thanks, y'all. I don't like it now, but maybe when the plants go in next spring, which seems a very long time away, it'll look better. FLAG - be sure you get heavy-duty rebar, and sink the bottom part into the ground. These are very wavy/swaying.

 o
RE: Fantasy Fence WIP

Slow is definately not a discription for you girl!
It is going to be so lovely next spring!

 o
RE: Fantasy Fence WIP

Wowee! I didn't realize you were so far along on the pieces for this fence. It's wonderful! I too especially like the tree trunk looking piece. Each one is so unique though...and so "Slow"! Most of all, I'm glad to see you with your hands back on some pieces and posting. We've missed seeing you around.

 o
RE: Fantasy Fence WIP

Too cold to work outside now, so I have to come up w/some inside projects, and am totally dry. I'll be looking for a finial for the last piece - something small to fit on the rebar.

 o
RE: Fantasy Fence WIP

Your Fantasy Fence is fabulous, simply fabulous! Once I finish the totem/obelisk thingy and the glass on the front door, I want to try my hand at your method of wire mesh and thinset. By the way, please go back into my post about the smalti.

 o
RE: Fantasy Fence WIP

OK, folks. Got a message from SILVA a few days ago, stating that she'd found an amber thingy that she thought I could use on a totem. I was so down in the dumps, I turned it down, cuz I was running on less than fumes w/inspiration. She wrote back that she wished I'd take it. OK, FINE, said I, and W.O.W. am I glad I accepted. I just got it and put it on the last piece of the fence where I'd planned to put the big flower that turned out to be too heavy. I wasn't even looking for another finial, thinking that it would be next spring b/f I'd be working on the "fence" again. SILVA, I can't thank you enough - it looks like you had the exact measurements. What a wonderful, thoughtful gift. It's PERFECT. I've now decided to mosaic the totems. If the weather holds, I'll start this week - don't like the paint. Roofers have been crawling all over my place today, and w/continue tomorrow, so day after tomorrow, I'll attach the pieces on that last one, and attach that wonderful little finial that looks like it was custom ordered. THANK YOU SILVA!!!!!!!! I LOVE IT. BTW - the picture is third on the second row of pictures.
SILVA's Gift

That finial is awesome. The perfect topper for that piece. You lucky girl.

 o
RE: Fantasy Fence WIP

Thanks for posting, SILVA. I had fun putting the pkg together. Could have gone further, but postage these days is awful.
