Hi,

I have been looking at this forum for a while now and have found the courage to attempt my first mosaic. I wanted to do a large outdoor panel for my garden but put it off. Glad I did because Hurricane Gustav came an would have destroyed it. So now that my patio is just about finished I decided to change where I wanted the mosaic and choose to do a 3' x 5' picture of a bird of paradise. I started a couple of days ago. I am working from a couple of pictures that I painted in watercolor. Please let me know what ya'll think of it and if you have any suggestions.

Thanks
Donna

your paintings are absolutely beautiful. once you finish the bird of paradise you should jump right into that tiger, those eyes are amazing.

RE: Newbie

Thank you so much. I actually just finished the tiger. It was the first time I tried to do an animal. I usually do flowers. If you mess up it still looks like a flower but if you mess up with animals or people they tend to look weird.

Well, hi, cajunlady!

Welcome To The Group

What beautiful work you do. Your bird of paradise has a great start. I like how you're mixing the colors within the colors. Obviously you're an artist! We'll all be happily following your progress. You seem to be doing just fine, but feel free to ask again as you go on if you think you need input. Again, welcome!

 o
RE: Newbie

cajunlady, welcome to the forum! Your work is beautiful! I love your egret; she reminds me of our own lake complete with the lily pads and grass.

Can't wait to see your WIP. Keep showing us your pics.

RE: Newbie

Thanks for the welcome and the nice critiques of my paintings. Hope I can do as well on the mosaic and that it doesn't take me forever to do it.

RE: Newbie

Help! I need suggestions. What do ya'll think it would be better to do? Structure the tiles like the purple in the pod or have the tiles random like in the green stem?

RE: Newbie followup

Hopefully these pics will help. I have to stand on top of my desk to try to get all of the picture. I'm trying to decide if the structured purple tile look better or the random green. Please advise.

Welcome, CAJUN - Man alive, you're patient, and VERY talented. I so admire all you artists that can paint w/glass. I used to paint w/oils b/f mosaics ate up all my other hobbies. Your paintings are wonderful, and I'll be anxiously watching how you explore mosaics - great start already - looks like you have experience already.

RE: Newbie

RE: Newbie

Well, I finally finished this bird of paradise.. I started this in August of 2009. Due to hurricanes, hubby's health and mostly my own procrastination it has taken me this long to finish. Another large factor in my procrastination is that I didn't know what I would do with it once it WAS finished. It measures 3' x 5'. I now think I am going to have it mounted on the wall in my kitchen. My son said he would make a frame for it when I was finished. I am going to hold him to that promise ;)))
