new to outdoor mosaic

Actually, I'm new to mosaics, period, and I don't know what makes me think I can take this project on. But, I live in a 50s subdivison and want to funkify things a bit. We have these (ugly) iron struts that support the front porch roof, consisting of a series of bars (4), some of which are 1" wide. I'd like to try tiling the struts, perhaps with 1" tiles, or just a mish-mosh of media. Is this too much for a first-timer? I'm scared!

NOTHING is too much for a beginner. If you can think it up, you can do it. I, too, have those wrought iron supports on my front porch, and when I first started mosaicing I thought about covering them, but they fell outta line as other ideas came along. Great project. You done yet??????
