sanded or unsanded grout with variable spaced gaps

Hello all,

I enjoy lurking and seeing all of your projects. Here is my third ever tile project. It will be the top to an end table. It is about 12x12".

The question I have is what type of grout to use? Most of the gaps are wider than 1/16", with a few over 1/4", so sanded grout is recommended. But then there's a few where the tiles are almost right up against each other, so less than 1/16", where unsanded grout is recommended. I assume that sanded would be best, but it might not penetrate the smaller gaps. Is this right? My plan is to wear gloves and use popsicle sticks or plastic knives to jam the grout down in the tighter spaces.

I bought a big bag of grout but haven't opened it yet. It is gray. It is laticrete 1500 sanded grout 'tri-poly fortified'. Please let me know if it would be unacceptable.

Thanks,

HydroPetunia
