Wanting to Mosaic inside open cabinet

| Hello, I have a tall cabinet that my microwave is in. I do not like the wood showing behind and around the microwave.
I want to do mosaic with broken fiestaware pieces. I really do not want to attach directly on the cabinet in case I do not like it or want to change it.
What type material would you suggest that I use to place mosaic on ? Inside wall measurements are about 21x23". I have looked into Ceramic Tile Backer Board, a light no mesh cement board ? Would that be a good option ?
Any particular glue or grout required, not sure how much heat the microwave puts out would effect the mosaic.
Any and all thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

| the backer board works fine. get it prepared to hang up before doing the mosaic. Because you'll be able to work flat, choice of glues is wide open, you can use a PVA like weldbond - no fumes or if you need to accommodate irregular surfaced tess you can choose to work with silicone or thinset. Sanded grout. |

| Yup, I'd do what Nicethyme suggested. Sounds like a fun project! |

| Thanks everyone, I picked up some of the 'ceramic tile backer board' 3' x 5' sheets today. I will let you know how it goes. |
