RECIPE: anyone doing South Beach?

I bought the guide book and think it looks healthier than Atkins. Problem is It's tough to find recipes that are "good carb" that will also taste good to my skinny husband who does not need to diet! Anyone have any good ones?

I'm not doing South Beach but I got this recipe from the book when I read it. It calls for part-skim ricotta but full fat is so much better if you can stand the fat grams.

SOUTH BEACH RICOTTA CREME
1/2 c ricotta cheese
1/4 t vanilla
1 pkt Splenda

Mix it up and chill.

For variations add cocoa powder or lemon or lime zest. Or, for almond, substitute almond extract and add some slivered almonds.

Cook's notes: This is quick and easy and satisfies my need for a little something sweet after a meal. I add extra Splenda for my sweet tooth.

I am doning the soth beach diet. If you get the book there is some recipes in at. And i have made the Ricotta cream and i like them. I have tryed all of them. Dh don't care for it but he will eat it if i put it in front of him. This is my second week on it.

Hi, Glad to see that there are a couple more at least! I have numerous Tall Bearded irises, but I have very great limitations on space and so until I move (which is hopefully soon), I will have lots for trade. Since I hope to move in the fall, I am hoping to find some folks locally who might be interested. I also have daylilies which look to be growing well enough to divide soon. Annie, was thinking of someway for you to fill in a few days with something that might be of interest. If you travel a bit north from Harlingen you'll bump into San Antonio. SA is about a 3 1/2 hour drive north of Harlingen - pretty wide open driving and nothing to slow you down. The King Ranch owns most of the land along this route. About 1/2 way between Harlingen and SA is one of the best BBQ places in Texas. There are several Motel 6's in the SA area. You might find bargains on the Riverwalk this time of the year (off season) and maybe you'd be nearer many of the major attractions/history. There are many things of interest that would keep you moving and out of the motel several hours a day. There is a hop on - hop off trolley that's convenient and easy to use. Might be less expensive to stay downtown than parking and lot fees on a daily basis etc. Austin is about a 1 1/2 hour drive from San Antonio. If it appealed to you both and was an easy fix, you might choose to drive to SA, spend a couple of days then drive into Austin for a couple of days before picking up your return flight. Be careful about low-carb high-protein diets. It may be okay to eat like that for a little while to lose some weight, but it is definitely not a healthy long-term diet. Carbohydrates are very important for cell activity throughout the body. The secret is to keep the blood sugar levels as steady as possible. If it is too high, the excess carbohydrates are turned into fat. If it gets too low, you won't be able to effectively burn any fat. "Good" carbs don't cause a quick raise in blood sugar levels. The glycemic index and glycemic load are definitely worth looking at. They give you a very good idea of which carbs to eat and which ones to avoid. For people who are not diabetic, I wouldn't recommend strictly counting all the carbs or indexes or calories. That would tke all the fun out of eating. Potatoes and whole wheat/grain pasta, brown rice and other not too refined products are very healthy and don't make you fat. They give you much more fiber than a high-protein diet will give you. The problem with eating too much protein is that the digestion of protein yields in large amounts of uric acid and the kidneys have to work hard to get rid of it. Animal proteins are worse than plant proteins. Too much uric acid in the blood can lead to gout. The recommendations for a well-balanced diet are 40% carbs, 40% protein and 20% fat in regards to the total calorie intake. 40-30-30 like RoxieL states above is close to that, but a little too high in fat. The daily recommended amount of fiber is 35 gram which is quite a lot. Most people, including vegetarians, get too much protein and fat, but not enough fiber. By the way, fiber is also a carbohydrate!

Embothrium, Where we are it definitely behooves one to great a microclimate where we can get the most out of our plants. Coming home to my family's property after many years, I'm just now kind of now gauging and figuring out the best area to put things not only for sun, but also wind. Wind is the worst thing for us I've determined. Like right now it's 54 degrees in Coupeville but the wind chill is bringing the temp down to the mid 40s! Cercis, In Tijuana, MX by San Diego I grew Brugmansias for many years, all from cuttings, and they were stunning trees taller than myself. The fragrance at night was intoxicating and since I spent the majority of my time home outside, it was lovely. Do you just one flush normally of flowers then? Have you checked out 'Angels Summer Dream' by Logees greenhouse? It is a hybrid by them that is supposed to bloom at 12" only. I ordered one last month and put it into a pot. It's not doing much yet but hope it is laying out roots. I also grew bananas in TJ probably 15 different kinds. Growing fruiting bananas in Coupeville would almost be a completely hair-brained idea even if I had a hobby greenhouse, but I can be adventurous! Z

I started last Monday (2/9/04) and I've lost 9 pounds already. Haven't weighed myself this week yet. Anyone have recipes or links to share? I like the ricotta cheese dessert too, Ilene. Especially the vanilla one.

Great recipe site, Wanda! New one for me. Yes, please could you post your recipe sites for SBD? I just started on my Phase 2 and love trying new recipes. I'll post a couple of my favorites later today when I get home from work. Maybe we can get this forum a bit more activity!

Sue, here's another one, but you have to download the recipes. She has alot of great one. She is a member on the sbd website at prevention magazine. Its a great site, lots of info and recipes posted daily.

Thanks again, Wanda! Great sites - I've been to the Southbeach Recipe site and have downloaded her recipes to try. And I've also bookmarked the Shake off the Sugar one for perusal at a later time. So many recipes to try - I'm 'hooked' on this way of eating!!

Your welcome! Hope that you enjoy them. I have no problem with this way of eating, it has really grown on me, and its a great diet for dh as he is a diabetic.
I am not saying that occasionally, we don't treat ourselves to something not on the sb way of eating, but then its right back to it the next day.

Thanks for the recipes i have been on it but was off of it this week end we had to go to ARK. my brother in law died and then when we got back we stared over and then today dh is got what every it is going around with a cold and things like that. And he said that his face haret. So when he gets to felling better we will start back on it.
