Here's one I haven't long time!! Almost forgot about it! But it's wonderful and makes the most awesome toast! Dartmouth oatmeal bread.... Proof 1 packet of dry yeast with 2 Tsp sugar in 1/2 cup of warm water. Stir 1 cup of rolled oats ( not instant!) into 2 cups of boiling water Add 2 Tablespoons shortening ( I use crisco.....but bet originally they used lard) 1/2 cup dark molasses Mix and cool Add the yeast mix to the oatmeal mix. Add 5 or so cups of bread flour and knead until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover loosley let rise until double....punch down....let rise again....shape into 2 loaves, let rise until double and bake at 350 50 or 60 minutes! And...another Here's a Rye bread Makes 6 loaves. Cook 4 medium potatoes (peeled), drain saving the water and put through a sieve (or mash) proof 2 pkts of yeast (or 3 1/2 teaspoons) in 1/2 cup warm water with a t. of sugar. Mix 4 c. of buttermilk, 3/4 c. dark molasses, 1/4 cup of shortening (she used Crisco, I use butter) and 1 t. baking soda and 1T.salt. Add 3/4 c. brown sugar and 3/4 c, of the potato water. Add enough rye flour to make a dough ( still able to be stirred, but getting pretty stiff).Add the yeast mixture and mix well Add enough white bread flour to (as Mrs. Faust said)work it up, That is until it is stiff enough to knead. knead about 6 to 8 minutes, let rise till double, punch it down and shape into loaves. this works best in bread pans due to the long cooking time--if you don't have 6 bread pans, just "free form" the rest and maybe take it out of the oven a little sooner. Butter top of loaves and raise until it almost cracks on top (this is a very heavy bread!) Bake 350 for 1 1/4 hours. mrs Faust used to divide the dough in half and add about a t. of anise seed to -one half of the dough--I like it--almost like a tea bread.. Good Luck--I'm getting hungry just reading the recipe--it's really a fabulous bread! And this....known to Swedes as Limpa....and Ann's bread is wonderful! From the Kitchen of Ann Straight Swedish Rye Bread (5 loaves) 2pkg dry yeast 1 cup warm H2O dissolve these three ingredients 1tsp. sugar (meanwhile) 1 cup brown sugar 1 cup whiter sugar 1tsp. salt (scant) 1/4 tsp. fennel seed 1 cup shortening (I use oleo) 1/2 (scant) molasses 4 cups warm H2O (combine this), add yeast mixture Stir in 4 cups Rye Flour Work in 8 or more cups of white flour (I use 10 cups) The dough should be soft, but of course it should be workable Knead for 5 minutes Mix well--cover and let rise in warm place until double--- stir or punch down Dump out on lightly floured counter Divide into 5 sections---shape Place in greased pans--let rise Bake at 275 -300 degrees until done

Dear Gary... I read your request a few years ago, and was wondering if you ever found the original Stickney's BBQ sauce recipe? Stickney's was a staple in my family's life, all the way through the early 80's until they shut down San Jose's Stickney's on Steven's Creek...I always ordered the hot pork sammies and dipped the fries in that OMG sauce! lol..The Chicken Noodle Soup and mile high strawberry pies were off the charts too..The closest I've come to getting that original taste, is Heinz 57 BBQ sauce with honey...I miss my childhood haunts...Santa's Village & Frontier Village as well! They are great roasted and used for Chili Rellenos. Home Cookin Chapter: Recipes From Thibeault's Table =============== I have been making Chiles Rellenos for about 30 years. I have never had an actual recipe. I just watch someone I knew (from Texas) make them and have been making this way ever since. I guess now is as good a time as any to put it down on paper. 1 or 2 cans whole chili peppers (usually 3 or 4 in a can) Monteray jack cheese 2 or 3 eggs separated 1 tablespoon flour salt and pepper oil for frying Sauce. canned tomatoes onions garlic cayenne pepper canned of chopped chiles chicken broth . Cut cheese into finger size pieces. Carefully shove the cheese stick into a pepper being careful not to split it. Heat about 1 inch of oil in frying pan. Beat the egg whites until medium stiff peaks form. do not overbeat. Beat egg yolks with salt, pepper and the tablespoon on flour. Gently fold the whites into the yolk mixture. Dip the pepper stuffed with cheese into flour and then into the egg mixture. Carefully add to the oil. If needed, spoon a bit of the egg mixture on top of the pepper while in the pan. (these fry quickly), flip over and fry other side. Remove and drain on paper towels. Continue cooking until all of the peppers are cooked. Make sauce by sauting the onions and garlic, add the chopped tomatoes and season with the chiles, salt and pepper. Add some chicken broth and simmer for 20 minutes. Serve Chili Relleno with sauce on the side OR Place the fried chile rellenos in a casserole dish and pour the sauce over them. Bake in a 350 oven for 20 to 30 minutes. ============================================================ I made Pork Chili Verde recently and served it over homemade flour tortillas filled with cheese and onions. Home Cookin Chapter: Recipes From Thibeault's Table ================ 1 to 2 tablespoons oil 1 cup coarsely chopped onions 1 to 2 pounds lean pork cut into 1/2 inch cubes 1 to 2 tablespoons flour 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin 2 cloves of garlic 2 cans roasted chili peppers 1 can/bottle of Tomatillos chicken broth cilantro Heat oil in heavy pot. Toss pork with flour, and brown. When all the meat has been browned, add the onions and garlic and saute for a few minutes. Add the cumin, the chili peppers, and the tomatillo sauce. Add some chicken broth. Simmer until meat is tender. Sprinkle with cilantro. Serve with flour or corn tortillas and sides of beans, guacamole, salsa, cheese,etc..

This is the Logan Bread recipe my neighbors use. OK, it is not EXACTLY the same, but since it is several years old, I think the Hunza Bread people tweaked it some, and claimed it for their own. I typed in the introduction just as is on the recipe from my neighbors. Logan Bread: Logan Bread is a delicious, DENSE, chewy Bread that's VERY NUTRITIOUS and is ALMOST IMPERVIOUS to SPOILAGE! This makes a huge batch of sixty 2-inch squares, HIGH in Protein, Vitamins, and Minerals. Keeps weeks at Room Temperature, EVEN LONGER in the Fridge and INDEFINITELY in the Freezer. The Recipe for this WONDERFUL Bread is as follows - *4 lbs. (14 1/2 cups) Whole Wheat/Kamut or Spelt Flour *1 1/2 cups Sucanat (dehydrated Cane Juice) *1/2 cup Instant Dry (or Soy) Milk *1 tsp. Sea Salt *2 tsp. Rumford's (Non-Aluminum) Baking Powder *1 tsp. Cinnamon *1 tsp. ground Nutmeg *1 cup chopped Nuts (see below) *4 cups PURE Water *1 1/4 cups Honey *1 1/2 cups Blackstrap Molasses *1 1/4 cup Sunflower Oil (or other HEALTHY Oil) *2 cups Dried Fruit (see below). Preheat oven to 300oF.. To blended dry ingredients, add Water, then Honey, Molasses, Oil and Fruit. Pour batter about an inch thick into oiled Pans and bake 1 hr. Reduce oven to 200oF., leave door open slightly and continue to dry Bread for several hours. The LOWER the Moisture that is in the Bread, the LONGER that it will KEEP! NOTE: You can get these Ingredients from your local Food Coop and/or Health Food Store. If NEED be in an EMERGENCY, you could substitute other comparable and/or various other NUTRITIOUS Ingredients, if the ANY of above are NOT AVAILABLE!
