Comments (2)I am going to send this poem to my girlfriend. We were just complaining to each other how we are running around doing every. Our husbands buy the tree and the kids think they are great. We decorate the house, bake cookies, clean etc. and no one says anything. Thank you again this definitely puts me back in the spirit! Happy Holidays (I'm going to give my kids a hug - Daddy will get one too!) Cath...See MoreSoap from used soap pieces ?? How to make
Comments (10)Yes, it is called rebatching, and I will avoid it if at all possible. It's time consuming and tedious. To let you know, I make cp soap by the 10 pound recipes. I presently have 2 buckets of soap scraps, I would guess about a 2 or 3 cubic foot container. Instead of rebatching it I will add it to a new recipe of soap. Unlike what you have, this is still virgin soap scraps, not previously used. I will make soap and give these away or use them ourselves. What I would do if I had these previous used scraps, I would just add it to a new bar as they are being used; they do stick fairly readily, and they rarely come off. If you are going to still rebatch, I would grate them, then lightly mist them (not dripping) the night before, then add them to a crockpot on low or medium heat. You will need to set aside about 4 hours or so, depending on how much soap you need to do. The trick is to add just enough water (by the tablespoon) to keep the soap pliable and not dry, while you are trying to mash it, until it is thoroughly melted. Be careful, this soap is very hot while in the crock! Any scent of the scraps will disappear in the final product, so if you want it scented, then let the soap cool down a bit and mix in scent just before pour/mashing it into any molds. hth...See MoreX'mas gifts for 23 grandkids and great grandkids
Comments (17)If you like to bake, you can give them Cookie Coupons to use throughout the year. When my grands were that small, I made six coupons each, good for anytime during the year with a two day notice. They had their choice of their favorite five kinds of cookies, choc chip, sugar, peanut butter...whatever you decide to list. They had such a good time with this that they requested coupons for Christmas for three years afterwards. Benefits are many. They get to interact with Granma on a personal basis during the year. They get a gift that keeps giving - six times! Homemade are better (and better for them)since they are going to eat something similar anyway. Only one family lived far enough away that the cookies had to be mailed. Even that was fun since the child got real mail of her/his very own....See MoreAnyone making Christmas Gifts this year
Comments (40)Used to do a lot of holiday crafts. When niece was young (now 21 and in college), we'd have a girl's weekend... decorating, eating, making gifts for her to give to aunts/uncles/grands/teachers, etc. When I crafted, was a scrounger. Would see something at a yard sale or thrift store and get ideas. One time found BIG lot of natural color linen towels. I stenciled with fabric paints. Another time found a box of almost white ceramic bathroom tiles. Niece stenciled with air-dry ceramic paints and made sets of coasters. Another time made quart Mason jars with mix for "beer bread". Made tags with instructions (with and without beer) and small pieces of Christmas fabric....See Moreeahamel
