Newbie Introduction with Soy Wax Question??
| | |

| Hi,
I've been a member of Garden Web for a few years, mostly hanging out in the plant propagation forum. I own a small bath and body business and am interested in adding candles to my product line.
Here is my question. I have purchased soy wax and it seems to have a white frosty coating on the top of all my candles and "tarts". Is this a result of pouring at incorrect temp? What causes this frosted appearance?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks

As far as I know of, this is something that is common to soy wax. Blends of soy wax do not do it, to my understanding, but the frosting of the soy wax (at least the last time I used soy wax, which has been quite a while) does. It was a common complaint of the soy wax users, and therefore a lot of the newer soy wax blends were developed, I think. Again, it has been a long time since I used soy wax, I only tried it a few times and didn't care for it, but I do like the blends. Susan |

| Jacki, give me more information.. Like what wax, what temp are you heating to, and pouring at. What are you adding and how much, ie FO and dye... What size container and what wick? I use 100% soy wax in my candles. I don't get the chaulky frost very often. Sometimes I think it's just the FO and the wax disagreeing. Sometimes it only happens after a few burns, and then never happens again... |

| Hi again, Thank you so much for the responses. I figured out the problem. I was pouring at WAY too high a temp. This morning I poured at 120 degrees and the candles came out perfect! No frost at all. I am using EcoSoya Wax......and decided I love it!! Thanks! Jacki |
