CP Supplies & Clean Up??

Hello All.....

I've been lurking for a while and would like to try CP, however I am a little curious as to how the pot and hand blender are cleaned??

Do you use the same hand blender and s.s. pot as you use for cooking or do you own seperate one's used only for your soap making?? If you do use the same items for cooking what is the best cleaning method??

I make goat milk soap I don't use the same pots that I cook with to make them I have pots I use just for makeing soap, as do I have pots I use just for making my candles. As for cleaning them I scrub them with hot water and run them trough the dish washer when I am finished with them. I wouldn't use them to cook food in.

I don't use them to cook with. In fact, I keep all my soap equipment separate from food equipment. Regarding cleaning... I always fill "oil pot" and lye/water container w/ a mixture of hot water and vinegar (to neutralize any remaining lye) I also put all other equip (spoons, blender parts, ladels, etc) in one of these two containers... I then rinse all w/ hot water and then put in dishwasher... I let dishwasher fill and then add a little bit of vinegar to it (just to be on the safe side). Maybe I overdo the vinegar thing, but better safe than sorry.

I mix my own spray cleaner, using the same ingredients. I noticed that your amount is different than mine. I usually heat up the water in the MW, then mix the borax and washing soda in the heated water. The higher temp. helps to dissolve the dry ingredients. It need not be boiling, but can be very warm. You can leave the mixture in the bottle for next time, so there is no need to make up a new mixture. To have a nicer scent, I usually add some drops of essential oil to the finished mixture. I also use Dr. Bronners Castile bar soap when shaving. It gives me a really great shave, while leaving my face moisturized. I have really dry skin, in the winter, so this bar leaves more oils in my skin. Soap does not strip oils like detergents. The easiest place to find the liquid Castile soap and bar soaps is at a natural food store like Whole Foods or Trader Joe's.

My favorite general spray cleaner is called "Cinch". It's a liquid that comes in an orangy-red spray bottle, bear Fantastic with cleaning supplies It's great for counters, tabletops, stovetop, my bathroom floor tiles. I don't use it on wood or metal or even on linoleum. But it does a great job on greasy dirty and general dirt.

I am totally put off by the idea of keeping cleaning supplies in the back yard in a yard barn/shed, for the help to use. I can't get past THAT. But anywhoooo first you have to decide if you are most concerned about being "green" or being germ freaky. I am finding in 2016 these concepts are opposed to each other. I have all my bathroom cleaning supplies in a blue caddy and yes the toilet bowl cleaning wand is in it. Do the chemistry--it MOSTLY touches cleaning chemicals. Maybe it depends on the size of the home or the number of bathrooms but one caddy in my hall linen closet fills our needs. Other wise a container of those wipes under the bathroom sink is what many are using for cleaning supplies. To each his own I suppose. I just hope all those wipes are not going into the toilet!!!

Cleaning fan on power supply

I did replace the power supply this afternoon, taking careful note of what plugged in where and snapping a couple photos before I took the old one out. At first I thought the fan on the new one wasn't working either, because it was so much more quiet, but it actually was spinning. So far, the computer seems to be working fine. Miracles, as they say, will never cease! I did have a bit of trouble pushing the little plug things in, but apparently I just wasn't pushing hard enough. I occasionally have problems with Windows not booting up properly after the computer has been unplugged for some reason--and that did happen this time. But that seemed to be the only problem, and it did boot up fine when I tried again. For some reason, the computer always changes the date back to 2002 during those episodes and I have to reset it. The first time that happened, I tried to access Google and was informed that Google didn't have a proper license. Perhaps it didn't back then! Thanks again, everybody, for all your help.

Hello Claire,

I just use liquid soap (lots) and hot/warm water to clean everything.

I will scrape off as much raw soap as possible; if you have a lot, make soap balls with this.
Then, all of the equipment into the sink with about 5 squirts of liquid soap. I do not use gloves, no I am not a tough guy; just with the limited amount of lye/raw soap around, a double sink, the amount of water that I use, I feel it is not necessary. And besides, the sink and water are right there if I need it.
I make a joke about soapers should learn how to make liquid soap before CP, just for the clean up.

If I feel I haven't done a proper job of cleaning, I will put these into the dishwasher (not the large pots though).

I will let these air dry, and then put them away. This equipment is used for soap making only.
