@Paula Steiner scented rose blooms last a shorter period of time compared to those with no scent. If you have read of a rose having a "heavy petal substance", that was code to exhibitors that the rose would last a long time when cut and likely be suitable for exhibition. Scent is either expressed by the petals or the stamen. In modern roses, it's mainly the petals. The oils and alcohols which comprise scent arise from "petioles", pores on the petal surfaces. These oils and alcohols are very chemically active and heat up to allow for the scent to be expressed. Petals with heavy "substance" have a heavy wax surface or skin which covers the petioles, preventing any possible oils and alcohols from reacting and becoming scent. If you want a cut flower which lasts a long time in vase; can withstand a lot of handling and endure shipping, you want the heavy petal substance (hence, lack of scent) so your product arrives in good shape and lasts a long while once received. Yes, there are florists who sell scented roses, however their fragrant blooms do NOT last AS long as cut flowers as those possessing no scent. Yes, there ARE "florist" and "exhibition" roses with scent, however, they do NOT last as long cut as those without scent. What's the use of a rose that doesn't smell like a rose? A commercial product you can actually advertise will arrive in a good retail shape after shipment; which will endure being worked into a floral arrangement and be in retail ready shape and last a week to ten days in a vase if properly cared for. Or, a rose you can cut at 3 AM from the garden in the dark; shove in an ice chest and drive several hours to a rose show, then abuse and molest it to look the way you desire and last in less than ideal conditions until judges finish picking it apart.

Aokat- I may be wrong but some of the photos above look like they have a beaded detail on the door/drawer. There are also those with the beaded detail on the frame. Just to clarify we opted not to do beaded on the frame due to expense and to maximize space. With beading on the frame it requires each drawer to be framed, and due to space ours our flush. We used Benjamin Moore White Dove in oil/satin finish I believe. The countertops and backsplash are 2cm Calacatta marble.

Wow CEFreeman, how unusual! I am proud to have a reclaimed kitchen in common. I believe this was the biggest project I have ever attempted, and DH never ever dreamed in his worst nightmare that he would have been putting a new finish on a kitchen full of cabinets! I finished my undergrad and did my graduate work in Lansing (in my 30's). Mason, being the county seat, was the next most important town around. I believe I went on a garden tour or antique shopping tour there with ladies from church. I loved that part of Michigan. I was born and finished high school in Detroit and lived in the thumb for most of my childhood. I am north of Detroit now. I will be happy to stand in as your "other" cousin Nancy if you ever need one in my area! I later realized I got "beadboard" and beaded inset all confused. mamapinky0, would you like me to mail you some of the Japanese detergents? They are in individual single use packs, so it'll be pretty easy! The ones I have are Heyaboshi Top (the Japanese hang dry clothes, and due to the high humidity levels musty smells are a huge issue - the heyaboshi is supposed to help that) and Attack (that's a link to the Singapore site which is in English). We were in Japan for 3 weeks, and did our laundry twice with JP detergents. Unfortunately even though they claim that everything is good for both colors and whites some dark shirts faded terribly, which is why I'm not too keen on using them again. I guess in order to balance out the cold water only washes they have to have some really harsh ingredients in there. By the way detergent is incredibly, shockingly inexpensive there - a box of Attack (which is considered TOL, if I understand correctly) was like $2. Oh and the washers are bizarre, for example, they can be set up to reuse bath water (which the whole family has taken turns soaking in). We rented an apartment in Kyoto through airbnb and our washer was on the balcony!
