Hi,

I am a little frustrated as I make M&P soap & I sell it on my small online website. I also sell candles & lotion etc... but I loovvee to make soap. I have not made much sales on my soap because it is not CP & I have been hearing rumors that I don't really make soap & that it is not good for you from other people that have various types of shops online as well. It seems as though it may be affecting sales of my other products. Can you lift my spirits & give me some positive feedback & facts on M&P so I can feel good about what I am selling?

I am not in business, but I do make MP soaps. Remember, it is a glycerin based soap that is very gentle on the skin. That is among the reasons I like it. Also, I assume your scents come from natural essential oils, which smell authentic because they are authentic.

I just started making M&P soap and I am getting wonderful results. I found someone who makes their own base - all natural with shea butter and goat milk. So rich and creamy. Make your product as all natural and pure as possible and then rave about its goodness! It is too bad that some of the M&P bases have alcohol and wax fillers. That is part of the problem I think. Good for you for having your own online business!

Hi Ken, The issues with these two conifers and many others are pretty much common place. Someone is always going to tell you the cultivar name is incorrect. There is to much inconsistency in the trade The main leader issues are always a concern along with growth habit for many of us. Just being an average photographer with a $200.00 camera with basic skills will get you just so so photos. A $2000,000 camera and knowing what it is capacable of will get you a 5 star rating on your photos, I personally would have a average camera with acceptable photos and pocket the difference for more conifers. Last but not to be over looked is, if it is left alone these conifers will fend for themselves. They have a much better idea as when to push a new leader, drop needles and survive difficult inconsistencies in wheather plus man's interferance with their natural growing ability. Most conifers will out live us by years if left alone. It use to be if one of my conifers saw me comming I can almost here it say...what does he have in mine now...why can't he just leave me alone. I don't need soil amendments, spraying or triming. Just plant me in the right spot, give me a little water if needed, and I'll take care of myself. I have learned my lesson. All my conifers are happy...well let's just say most...some you can never please. Dave

I pop in a couple times a day as well to see if anything is going on. I don't have a show scheduled until May but it is a big outdoors show that is very successful, it is 3 days and is alot of fun. It is a German Festival. I am getting ready for that while making product and TRYING to get pics for my website that is under construction (if I don't get the pics done it will remain that way). In a recent post I added that I finally made CP soap and was very excited about it. I am getting ready to make my 2nd batch next week (waiting on a fragrance) I make Clear glycerin and Goat's Milk based soaps and now adding some CP. I also make body butter, lotion bars (huge seller for me), lotion, lip balms, bath salts, salt scrubs, body/linen sprays, bath bombs and have just added a Muscle Relief Balm with EMU oil, I love it! Oh, I just added Loofah Scrub Bars! Some things I would like to try: Body Powder, Shampoo Bar(tried and flopped the 1st time but will try again), dish soap and anti-bacterial liquid soap. I am also going to dabble growing some herbs this spring. I sell on ebay as well and am constantly trying to clean out my shop. I have had a 12x12" "tile" of this stuff taped to my kitchen backsplash for a while--it's natural shell stuck on a mesh sheet very closely so that you don't grout it, right? Think of it more as a heavy duty textured scrubable wallpaper than as a tile. I think it is fine to just put it up with a white thinset (or whatever the manufacturer suggests--but definitely white) and be done with it. If you have extra, do a test board with one square. It's not cheap, but that's all the more reason to test it. You might have to vacuum it every once in a while but otherwise just ignore the little cracks. I don't think sealing would do you any good. The shells certainly don't need it. I really like the stuff but it's waaaaaay too much bling for a large kitchen backsplash. Perfect for a bathroom.

Look to your ingredients! Everyone here is right. If your base is alcohol-free, stress that, plus the fact that it is a gentle product. And stick to essential oils, so you can call it a natural product.

Another selling point can be aesthetics. MP soap takes colors better, so you have a better-looking product. This can be especially important in selling the small guest soaps. People care about how they look.

I do both. To me it is exactly the same thing. The only difference is, MP has the lye cooked out in an oven or crock-pot. CP, the lye is cooked out in the gel. CP needs a bit more time to fully cure. IMO CP does look nicer in a mold.

Follow-up.... So sorry I made a huge mistake. I was thinking OP and CP my brain was obviously not functioning. I have not tried MP.
