How to get started?

Hi, I've been reading on this forum and have a strong urge to know more. How do you recommend for a body to get started making soaps, lotions, lipbalms and candles? I know I can't just do it without some logical starting points. My husband has bees and I've put up some beeswax, but don't know the best way to use it. I know some simple ointments can be made with beeswax, olive oil and a few other ingredients, but I would like to learn to make some really nice items. Maybe someone could suggest some good reading material. Thanks in advance for your help.

When I first started, I bought kits. I still think that is the best way to go, until you are really familiar with what you are doing enough to experiment with different recipes. I would suggest looking at some of the suppliers like Brambleberry, Majestic Mountain Sage, Bittercreek Candles, etc., and picking out a few kits to try. They are generally low cost, high yield kits and most of them are complete.

Thanks for the advice Sriston, sounds like a good idea. I checked out the site for Magestic Mountain Sage, some neat things. Will check out the others you mentioned and see what I can find and learn.

I went to the library and got some books on making lotions, etc. They are a big help.

Use good ol Google...
You'll find a variety of recipes, that you can wade through.

Oregon Trails and Brambleberry both have recipes and supplies.
