in Hobby Lobby i see a gadget called a candle warmer, supposedly you can get the scent from a candle by warming it without lighting it, anyone try these?

I have one. I am not impressed by them. For one, the wax still gets hot, hot enough to burn a child, so I don't see any safety bonuses over a candle. Second, a candle of any size won't melt all the way, mostly just melts on the bottom and therefore not much fragrance is released. Third, the fragrance does leave the candle. I mean, its not like you can have a candle sit on it for days. I don't know why, but the scent leaves the candle and eventually you have unscented wax to throw out. I much prefer burning a candle; I think you get a stronger fragrance throw. I am a candlemaker, and the only candles I have used on my candle warmer have been the ones I make. The one thing I can say the candle warmer is good for is when you have just a little wax left, not enough to burn but it still smells. The candle warmer will finish up the fragrance.

Hmmm, my candle/hot drink/soup warmer melts ALL the wax in the jar, no matter the size. And I can tell the difference in scent throw from lighting the candle versus using the warmer. The warmer makes for a much stronger scent.

Mine is just a candle warmer, and it won't melt large candles all the way. The scent throw is fantastic, but only for about 5 days. The candles also lose all their color, too, for some reason. They are good candles, Colonial Home and Yankee, but I get much better results by just burning them.

Mine was bought at JoAnn's & had the inner packaging stating it was for candles AND hot drinks/soups. It's liquified large jar candles & the scent & color's still there, even with the cheaper ones. That's weird how your candle warmer acts.

*confused/pondering*

Do you run your warmer 24/7? I don't. And when it's not in use I cap the candles. Maybe this makes a difference?

My warmer will be on for several hours, but I don't use it 24/7 although I know some people that do. I don't cap my candles, either. Maybe that makes a difference with the color and scent. My warmer won't melt a jally jar size candle, it will be melted at the bottom but not on top. Must be a cheap warmer. :) My sister in law had the same problem and she likes huge candles, so she bought one of those crock style candle warmers- it looks like a tall, thin crock pot. The whole candle fits down inside it. It works real well for her large candles.

I have one and love it. Mine melts the wax all the way no matter the size of the jar.
