Lotion & Body Butter Making

Posted by ladyofsuccess (My Page) on

Has anyone made their own lotions and body butter totally from scratch? A lot of the recipes I see call for an already made lotion base, but I am looking to make my own base. I want to control everything that is in the lotion. Any ideas and suggestions out there?

Body Butter

16 oz Shea Butter
5 oz. oil (sweet almond, jojoba, aloe, sunflower, etc)
2 tsp. cornstarch -- to cut down on greasiness (I use goats milk powder, makes it creamy).

Melt butter, add oils, put in freezer. Let it set up. Take out and whip like crazy. Add the cornstarch while whipping. Return to freezer, let set again, take out and whip. You continue to do this until you stiff peaks.

Then it's ready to use. You can add fragrance oil and color to this also. I choose not to. I use this on my face at night time.

For lotion, I use a base and add my oil and whatever I want to it.
