clay additives question

What are clay additives for? For what purpose do you add them? Are there differences between the different types of clay that I should know about? Which ones do you recommend? I think that's enough questions for moment. ;-)

RE: clay additives question

I haven't used clay in soap, but my understanding is that clay is astringent and therefore some folks like to use it in facial soap. I've also seen it in shaving soap recipes, and I'm not sure if that's for astringency or to kick up more lather or what?? Also, some clays are pretty colors and can add a subtle pink or green... But, that's about all I know, and there are various clays that must have different properties?
