Wanted: Recipes to Make Your Own Soap Base
Comments (3)I haven't made any soap. I'm looking for soap base recipes. I have 1 soap base recipe, the person that supplied that took pics and inclued them in the recipe. That soap base turns a red-ish clear color (from the pics). I have no ingredents because I have no recipes minus the one I mentioned. I am looking for Saop Base recipes that come out a white-ish to clear color. It doesn't have to be a perfect "clear" it can be cloudy. I just want to be able to add my own color to it and it be that color. Thank You...See MoreQuestion on making goat's milk soaps
Comments (3)depends on if you are doing melt & pour glycerin soap or if you are making cold proccess soap. If it's melt & pour, (M&P) it's easier to buy it already made into goatsmilk base....or you can ge plain & add your own goatsmilk powder to it. Then either fragrance/essential oil. This you can use immediately. If it's cold process you want to do, look on the web for recipies....it would involve palm, coconut, olive or vegetable oils (or a combination), lye, goatsmilk or goatsmilk poweder & fragrance/essential oil. THis has to age 4-6 weeks before using it. If you want to do cold process (CP) soap, it might be easier to start with a plain recpe first, then move to the more complicated ones. Good luck....both are fun to do. I'm just to impatient for the CP, so I went to the M&P. Plus the colors are brighter, & the scents can be made stronger in M&P...it's much more forgiving than CP. Comments (3)Susan, If you are pouring with clear M&P, no clue. However, if you are using white M&P base, what I do to get an "off white" color is to add yellow coloring, VERY tiny amounts at a time. I don't know if you use soap dye or food coloring. If it's soap dye (I use LOP, in the small bottles from Micheals) I squeeze a tiny drop right to the tip of the bottle, barely sticking out at the tip, then lightly tap the bottle to get it to drop off. If it gets too yellow, you can just add more white base to adjust the color. (I also use white & clear base together to vary the colors) If it's food coloring, I don't know the exact method, but probably something similar, just a TOUCH of yellow added to white base. Glad to see there's someone else who still pops in here! Was beginning to think it was just Heather & I left poking around here!! Whats everyone been doing? Comments (4)2. How can you be sure that so-called natural bases do not contain added chemicals? (I was planning on buying 'Life of the Party' avocado cucumber base from Michael's, but no ingredients are listed). You cant really be sure unless you buy all natural lotion base that has the ingredients listed. You can usually get this in sizes from half a gallon and up in most online soap and cosmetic stores. 3. How many times can you remelt the base (I have a feeling I might mess up a few before I get it right LOL) You can re-melt the base a whole lot, the ingredients you have in the soap will begin to break down with the heat so you may have to add more (fragrances / essential oil) 4. What is the difference between glycerin and regular soap, and is there a 'natural' transparent soap? The difference between Glycerin and Synthetic "regular" soap is just that, the Glycerin. Glycerin serves as a emollient (soften and smooth skin) and humectants (absorbs water from the air and moistens skin).
