Pest issues - Trying not to get frustrated
Comments (18)It looks like may be a patent leather beetle or darkling beetle. Have you read the wikipedia entry on earwigs? So many things eat them and parasitize them it's a wonder there are enough left to damage anything! Although the first instinct is to reach for something destructive, have you stopped to figure out why they are so abundant in your garden in particular? There may be something you can change about your setup to help with this problem. Or, it might not, but it's worth checking into. Itzy- if it is the size of a japanese beetle, then you've got an asiatic garden beetle. If it is larger, like the size of an olive, that's a junebug. I don't think the brown junebugs are usually a problem. I was planting some more crowder peas last week and finding some AGBs coming out, they looked almost exactly like my pea seeds!...See MoreWhere to buy soy candles?
Comments (13)Um I make soy candles which are from 100% soybean wax, no additives. I only add fragrance oil, and I use natural fiber wicking. Where you have a fire and burning, you'll have soot. Sometimes, if I've over wicked a tester, I'll get black soot, not like thick smudgey stuff that is common in alot of paraffin commercially made candles but none the less soot...veggie, and soy candles can make black soot. And if burned properly a quality made paraffin candle will not make black soot either. And there is truth to the burning of petrolum/paraffin can cause asthmatics to have issues with breathing, and some animals as well....See Moresoy candles
Comments (1)I have not made candles in years. I did try the coconut oil and to me it did seem to help. I want to say I used a tbsp per lb of wax, but I can not swear to that amount. I got too frustrated with soy and switched to regular wax. I also did half soy and half regular sometimes also. Hope that helped....See MoreI need some help with soy wax please
Comments (2)For the past nine years I've been ordering my candle supplies from Bittercreek Candle Supply (candlesupply.com). They are located in two different states, Northern Wisconsin and Texas. Their prices are in the mid-range but I have found that if you buy cheap, you get cheap!!! I get the EZ Soy wax flakes. Bittercreek has 'everything' you would want to make candles, soaps, anything that can be scented. The last time I was at their site they didn't carry essential oils yet. They've been working on it tho. They are pretty picky on where they get their stuff so they must not have been able to find a good place to get it. If I need help with something, all I have to do is call and anybody that answers the phone will be able to answer your question. The owners are wonderful people. Just to let you know, I don't work for them and I don't get a kick back for reccommending anyone to them. I have tried so many other candle suppliers and have not been satisfied. A couple of years after I started making and selling candles, soy wax became available. I quickly switched and fell in love with the soy wax. I'm not cutting down parrafin by no means, I just prefer soy. Hope this helps Iheartcandles Cindy p.s. i've been in the garden junk forum and thought i'd look around and found all of you at the soap and candle making forum:) :) Candles, my first love. My second love, Junk....See Moresriston
