soap base ingredients

What should a m&p base have in it? When I check the list of ingredients, I see a bunch of chemicals, but I know many of them are just the official names of natural substances... But, I also know that some soap bases have additives that don't need to/shouldn't be there... I remember finding a site at one point that listed all the possible ingredients and what they were for, but I can't find it again! Help!

At BeOnTheSafeSide.Com they have a list of chemical ingredients in cosmetics, soap & H&B products. This site seems a little on the fanatical side as far as chemical additives go. They also have a Reference Page.

I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for...it's kind of a bummer site.

Here's another site that I find useful, Tara.

Here is a link that might be useful: Oshun - Cosmetic Ingredient Information

Here's the INCI list - when listing ingredients they say you have to use the INCI terms - so here it is.

RE: soap base

wait - I forgot to add (sorry, I was out making an igloo and I'm exhausted) that these are mainly if your product is considered a cosmetic - bath salts, bombs, lotions, scrubs & rubs, lotion bars....not M&P base soaps. But I think if you write that your soap does something like moisturizes or relieves itchy skin, then you MUST list all ingredients. Sorry for the confusion
