Pillar candle holders

I'm having the hardest time trying to find clear plain glass hurricane holders for each of the sizes of pillar candles I want to buy.

Lots of places sell the hurricane holders for 3" & 4" diameter pillars, but I want a whole set to match & one for each size candle. I've not been able to find any to fit 6" diameter pillars. I don't know if 5" diameter pillars exist, but if they do, I'd need a holder for them as well.

Since I'm unable to find these matching hurricane pillar candle holders in clear plain glass I've been thinking of using glazed terra cotta saucers, but I don't know what size to get for each pillar candle.

I'd need to consider room for the candle wax when/if it overflows so it doesn't end up on furniture or flooring. This is why I wanted hurricane holders. I can't stand the flat-like plates or those with little lips most places sell for holding pillar candles. I've had accidents in the past with the candle burning through on one side & hot wax flowing onto a table & floor.

So if I get glazed ceramic saucers to hold the pillars & catch wax overflow, how much room do I give each diameter pillar candle?

Hi Liz - I did a Froogle search for glass hurricane candle holders and came across the site below... it may have what you are looking for. (I have no knowledge of the reliability, service, etc. of this site... just found it on the net.)

I saw that site while searching & just went back to it, but the hurricane shades are only 5" diameter top & bottom by either 11.5" or 14" tall.

Though the base the shade sits on will hold a 6" candle. I'm assuming they mean diameter versus height.

Welcome Beecharmer2! This is such a fun forum with the nicest of people! If you look on the GardenJunk homepage, you'll see "FAQ" at the top of the page. It tells how to make some of the cool projects you see on the forum. There's one for marbles on bowling balls...same idea as pennies. I'll post the link below. I haven't grouted mine but I bet someone else will speak to that. This was my first bowling ball. So easy and FUN! When you do a bowling ball, have a container you can sit it in. I used an old heavy pan. The GEII is a silicone sealant. I found mine in the glue department at Lowe's. Have fun! Post a picture if you create a Bowling Ball masterpiece!!! Nona, the smallest big butterfly was $11 I think. I picked up a pretty big one first, and it was $14. Then I saw a really huge one but didn't check price. Probably $19-20. My big ol' skinny rooster was $15. His body is PURPLE and white, LOL, so you can understand why he was calling to me to take him home. I may have to get a butterfly next time tho, they are really cool. I thought all Goodwills did a half off day. Ours here do them twice a month I think. Tues is seniors day, so I often go then too. Hope my 'new' camera comes fast, I feel like I'm missing an apendage without one. LOL. Honestly, my camera is always within reach! Mostly cause dogs and cats make such great photo ops. I think the candies are beautiful. They will look lovely with the napkins. I love the idea of antique architectural elements, even to just to use them on the guest book table etc. will help set the tone. You can look in craft stores, such as Michaels. If you go to their web site, you can sign up to get coupons for 50%off emailed to you each week. That is what we have been doing. Also, I was going to make the runners, but then I found this site, http://www.tableclothsfactory.com/default.asp The satin runners are only $2.99! You cant make them for that! Funny you mentioned Martha. That is what my friends call me : ), so I am feeling a lot of pressure to get everything just right with this wedding. It is hard because my daughter has her ideas and it is her wedding. I am being the good mom, supporting what is in the budget and what I think will work and waiting her out on things I don't. Thanks Karen. I have looked at that rooster a couple of times now but it is the "faux-wood" look of him more than the price which makes me undecided. But maybe you are right, the "poor guy" needs me to buy him and put him in a setting where he looks better! lol Prosperity, have you got an "apple green & brown" living room - sounds lovely! Maybe you should switch furniture and call your living room your dining room for awhile. DH and I put a table in front of our fireplace last winter for a couple of months...was so cozy to eat there for a change. DD
