lip balm prservatives

Does anyone know of a preservative to be used in lip balms? Or at least a recipe which last long and is suitable for sale? I made some once and it seemed fine, then it started getting white stuff on the top.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

The only preservative I use is a couple of drops of Vitamin E oil. (It is an anti-oxidant and non-toxic in small quantities.) As for my recipe, my base is equal parts (by weight) shea butter, jojoba oil and beeswax. Jojoba oil is know for its long shelf life, which is why I use it.

white stuff on top was most likely "bloom"..from the beeswax or butter used. Didn't hurt anything.
