| Hello everyone,
It's 58 degrees here and there is a steady rain. I love this kind of weather! I think it is supposed to rain off and on all week with highs in the 70s and lows in the 50s. Perfect after a typical hot southern summer.

You just don't live far enough south! It's going to be low 90's here (FL) all week, with very high humidity. This morning at 5:30 AM it was 80. We had a brief tease last week- it actually got down to the high 60's for two nights. Ask me again why I can't wait to move to the SC mountains.....

Loretta we had your weather yesterday. Today was windy and cool with some sunshine. No telling what tomorrow will bring. There is lots of snow on the mountains around this valley.Look at the cam in the morning and you should be able to see the snow on the far off mountains. Chris

OH I just remembered the airport cam and it shows what a pretty day we had today. This airport is about a mile and a half from our house . Maybe two.the cam is facing towards town but is not high up enough to show the mountains around the valley. Chris

flgargoyle, What is your typical low temp in winter? I went to see the Mouse about 3 years ago in October - it was still really hot! I've promised myself that I'll never go to Florida again unless it is winter! Wow Chris, snow on the mountains! We get a little snow here every couple of years (lasts on the ground about 1-2 days). Schools and businesses are closed, lol Everyone loves it! |

Our typical winter lows are probably between 55-60. The coldest I've seen was 22. Every couple years we get a frost, but it can also be pretty hot- it just depends on the fronts coming through. We haven't run our heat in years- we just throw on more clothes and 'play' at winter! We're on a peninsula with water all around, so we're noticeably warmer than inland areas at night. The best (but most crowded) time to come is February and March.

LOL At ME on your post Loretta. You went to see the mouse. I am thinking WHAT is she saying here. The mouse?? Ah Hahaha I am such a dork. Disneyland.DOH Heheheheh flgargoyle we were just talking about living in FL. You never run out of yard work it goes on all year. Here we are about done with the yard and will be winding up the hoses. Should have sooner and might just go out in a few minutes and do it. Should do it. I love gardening but am always happy to give it up at the end of the season and get a fresh start in the spring. Loretta this is about the time we start to get snow in the mountains and about Thanksgiving we will usually have a pretty good snow here that will last the winter through. We had four foot on the flat two years ago. The dogs could walk right out of their yard so I had to keep an area shoveled around the edges of the fence to keep them in. Chris

It snows in November and never melts till spring? I bet you are really good at driving in snow. It's been too long for me, I think I've forgotten how.

Although we can garden year-round, most plants go rather dormant during our winter months. The lawn nearly stops growing, and most of the shrubbery does, too. I guess the length of the days must have an effect. We have land in SC that we hope to start building on next year. One of the things we wanted was 4 seasons, without too much snow and cold. Living in FL, I miss fall and spring the most.

I should have said we have snow that time of the year. They do plow the roads nicely so it then melts off and the roads dry out. The snow stays on the yards and mountains. I HATE to drive in the snow . I can do it. Had to last winter when hubby had to have cataract surgery twice in January. I was so afraid. He just kept talking to me calming me and I just went slow. We have bought a new car and he was able to buy studded tires for it. I have never used them before. For the most part we just wait until the roads clear, dry off, before we decide to drive to town. We keep a well stocked pantry and freezer. Chris

Snow 4 feet high! What do you do with the doggies when its freezing? When it freezes here we always put ours in the washroom at night.

I am winding down from working late tonight. Loretta, Our doggies have their nice beds in the house in our room . They would be highly insulted if they thought they would have to sleep outside. They also have dog houses in their yard and the dog houses are even under a roof so the snow stays off of them. Then I shovel out a path to the dog house area and around in their yard. Even the kitties like to go out in the snow in their kennel. They have an in the window pet door. Our fur kids are way spoiled. Chris

--"They would be highly insulted if they thought they would have to sleep outside."-- Ahhh! Indoor children! Its been several years since I've had an indoor pet. When my last dog died I just did not want to go through that again. But lately my son has been making noises about getting a cat, which I love but have no idea where I could put the litter box. We have 2 outside dogs (mutts) but it is not the same as an indoor pet.

I find most "outside dogs" whatever that is, adjust quite easily to living inside with air conditioning and people for companionship.

We finally got a break here in FL, with temps in the 40's over much of the state Monday morning. It won't last long, though- it got pretty warm today. I hope the real heat is over- I love having the doors and windows open!
