Try an image search for storage solutions on the net. A lot of ideas will come up. Also we had a thread on under stairs storage wher I posted instructions...if you have stair.

There are many here who have used areas of walls for inside storage. Just make sure you aren't going into a bearing wall. I love the ideas for bathrooms using walls next to the toilet, perfect size storage for toilet rolls, bottles, etc.

Gently used kitchen cupboard doors can be attached to walls too. Studs need a good sawzall if you want to enlarge the area. Then trim out the inside with sheetrock and finish out.

One solution I still want to use is 2 bookcases as doors on my office closet. These would open outward. Storage plus, there is a good 8 inside inches unused where the sliding doors are now.

Here's a very out of focus picture of a pantry made by lining the area between the studs with formica, then adding shelves and a bifold door to cover it. It's a TON of extra storage in a 6 x 10 kitchen, even though it's only a few inches deep:

I know this is not between the studs storage you asked for . I followed one of the links posted about and if no one else did they are missing this DARLING little potting shed. Wish they had showed inside pictures. This is so cute. Worth the click.
