How is your construction going, desertsteph?

I haven't been able to find any more info on your work after you were buying the flooring. your set up sounds really interesting and I've been following along for a while.

Just call me 'concerned' not 'nosy'.

lol! even 'nosy' is ok with me!

well, it's limping along. I haven't posted because not much has been done.

Also, I was slowed up a LOT because of my left eye. sight is back in it but a bit foggy still. have to get back to the eye doctor (have to have tests done first).

flooring isn't down yet - I did decide on something but haven't gotten back out to check price on it. I've had car trouble and went from changing some tires, to balancing them to finding out it was the rack 'n pinion. It took about a wk for my guy to find a used one and then another week to schedule me in. I just got the car back yesterday afternoon.

so in the past 3-4 wks I haven't driven more than about 10 miles from home. mostly not at all. i have cleaned out some drawers, been pulling up staples out of the floor boards (holding old carpet pad down), measured for more closet shelves, etc.

sunday my BIL put up braces for some shelves. This week I'll measure and get the shelf boards to put in.

dbf has some flooring from a casino for me to check out - it's a vinyl or linoleum type. I'm planning to look at it later this week. It'll be free except installation. If I don't like it/don't want it then I'll go price the wood look vinyl. It was about 2.40 a sq ft (is that how they price it- by sq ft?) but I don't know about subfloor stuff and underlayment etc.

The electrician hasn't been back yet. could be he moved to Europe to get away from this place - lol! I've been online looking at light fixtures wanting to have them here when he comes back - but, I think most will just wait until later. I can pick up the over the bathroom mirror ones at Lowe's this next week. The entry fixture I bought has to go back - I forgot about the angled ceiling and it'll tilt toward the LF!

I have been taking some boxes of things over. Getting those shelves up will give me a place to put those boxes!

Hopefully, more will happen this next week or 2 now that I can drive again.

I finally got a camera - just haven't used it much yet or figured out how to turn off a gps thingy - if it has one. nothing about it in the manual that came with it. Don't want to post pics til I know that is off - or it doesn't have one. Not that I have anything new to post a pic of - other than the shelf braces.

thx for asking! hope you don't regret it now - lol!

You're getting quite a bit done, Steph. I hope you find out something about your eye to get your vision back. That would drive me nuts.

'find out something about your eye to get your vision back. That would drive me nuts.'

the doctor wants a chest x-ray, blood tests and a skin test (patch?) - have no idea what that means but figure he knows what he might be looking for...

I was on my way to get the chest x-ray the day I heard the 'weird noise' in the front end of my car. knowing I'd be going into traffic and an unknown area (new area) I just turned around and came home. didn't want to be breaking down somewhere like that! I'll have to go have the tests done later this week - then I can reschedule an appt with the eye doctor.

I was going to run down to W earlier and my eye decided to go a bit ziggy on me so I had to put it off for an hour or so til it stopped. It's done that for yrs and yrs tho and I don't know that it has anything to do with this latest problem. it reminds me of the ziggy lines in some fabric used for sheers. It usually clears up within 20 min to an hr tho.

With the bit fogginess I experience now it does cause some problems with lines (like on the syringe for insulin), measuring other things and sometimes I see black spots. At first I tried batting at them - thought they were gnats - lol! but they moved with me!

Dang Steph Sorry life is throwing you curves. I hope your eye gets better soon and your car. And still you keep puttering away on your new place. Good for you. All in good time. Will be getting pretty warm there soon??

shades - yep, puttering is a good word for it - lol! that's what you have to do - just keep going forward, even if it's slow going! I keep reminding myself that it's all in God's time, not mine.

It is warm here many days now - in the 80's. Nights are still very cool tho. I certainly want the new place sealed off to the elements and to be in it by mid May. Might need to be a bit sooner for my old girl - I'd hate to have to turn the little a/c unit on here EVER again. I will need to fire up a fan this wk or so. The new place blocks the bedroom window to this place from air flow and it's getting a bit stuffy during the afternoons. morning and evenings are fine tho. I still grab a jacket when walking her at night.

Well, it seems our desert rose is about to bloom here! So glad to hear your sight is coming back, your car is fixed, and you are revving up to put in the shelving.

If you don't turn on the a/c, what keeps you cool in the heat out there? I woke up this morning with condensation on the windows, it was 69 inside and that meant it was much cooler outside for that much moisture on the interior.

Not sure what a skin patch tests for, except they do it for TB which is one thing. Who knows what else. Not likely to be lungs for you.

    Steph,

I had a doctor's appointment yesterday for the same type of eye problem. the infection has gone in mine but he's so afraid of it coming back, that I have drops to use the minute of any probs. My vision is real bad in that eye but he says it's from catarats and no operation for at least six months after the infection. Too bad you mentioned your eye trouble, now you have a book to read.

I love hearing about your house going up. Your dbf is the same type of man that I have. We reuse and rebuild etc all the time. Our grandson and his family live in our upstairs, so we have seriously downsized. I still have my books. DGS enclosed our front porch(6' deep) and built bookshelves the full length of the porch. We have another tv out there and a couple of different seating areas. It's crowded and comffy and DH can watch his wrestling without me kibbiting.

thanks for answering. I was afraid I'd get sent to Disney for aiming for you.

"If you don't turn on the a/c, what keeps you cool in the heat out there?"

i don't usually turn it on til it's in the mid 90's for a period of time. Until then the cool evenings balance it out. My furgirl tho - at age 14 - seems to have more problems breathing w/o it, so I'll run it for her. I don't want her struggling with the heat - in her fur.

"I woke up this morning with condensation on the windows, it was 69 inside and that meant it was much cooler outside for that much moisture on the interior."

ah... that explains why I saw some on one of the windows in the new place the other day. I'll cross that off of my list of 'questions and things to do yet' that I'm typing up for dbf.

    "skin patch tests"
yeah. guess I should google info on 'skin patch tests' and TB...

sorry to hear you've had an eye infection and hope it clears up and stays cleared up. Mine is only inflammation, an infection sounds much worse!
When it happened in 2006 the specialist connected it to my auto immune problems. This doctor doesn't have those records (tho he could get them) and is concerned about why it has happened twice now. I guess it's better he checks it all out just in case there's another reason for it.

"built bookshelves the full length of the porch"
now that sounds awesome! and it gives me an idea if I run out of bookcases for my books - I'll squeeze another shelf in one of the closets!

"I love hearing about your house going up"

how sweet! I do hope to be able to post pics again soon since I finally got a new camera.

"I was afraid I'd get sent to Disney for aiming for you."

send you to stand in long lines with 3 million little kids? no way!
and I didn't think of it as 'aiming' at me, more like friendly curiosity... I do the same in wondering about mama g, idie and others when they don't post for a long time. I also miss their input on things. or are they sliding thru projects w/o our help? lol!

Steph, nawwwwwwwwwwww....sliding through projects without our help? Can NOT imagine anyone doing such a thing. :)

Idie just showed up TODAY. Nice.
MamaG still missing. Maybe we hear after Easter?
Sandy still missing. Wonder how her FL Cracker house is coming along.

If all you guys had not kept me focused, I doubt I'd be this far along with the master suite OR the Teahouse.
