How about a skylight?

Hi - we got an estimate to put a dormer in our attic - $12,000. We didn't do it :-( It sure would've made a difference.

I've been lusting after dormers for our 1.5-story Dutch Colonial, but cost so far has precluded them. I think they would make a big difference, particularly along the side of our house that faces south.

We have small shed dormers on part of the roof, but they don't offer much in the way of light or space.
