What's the worst part about your job?
Comments (36)Gosh, I feel like I'm not holding my end up this time. Although I've had good & bad jobs with this company over the million years I've been here, this one's been the best. Here's why: we are almost totally self reliant, meaning we get to decide for the most part which jobs are a priority and which can wait a bit. Only one fuction do we sometimes have to 'farm out' to another entity to complete our work and that comes into play maybe 50% of the time. All of us are consientious; if someone calls in sick the three others look in the database to see if any work is assigned to that person, asigns it to themself and does it - without being told. It's a 'you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours' system based on mutual respect that works well. Really, the only bad part is that 5:35 AM alarm clock 5 mornings a week. I feel like pinching myself....See MoreWhat is the worst thing about yourself?
Comments (39)I will try my best in relationship with friends - ignore lots of stuff because I am aware that there has to be give and take in friendship. I ignore too much, stuff it down and let it go. But - in time (usually many years) there will be a (small) straw that breaks the camels back and I am done forevermore. I don't want to discuss it, I am completely done with a person. I never miss the relationship, I'm that done. It's like when I decide I don't want to interact to the person again, a huge burden has been lifted from my shoulders. It's not that I never speak to them, but I am so distant and unavailable to them that they clearly get the message. I never miss the "good times" of the friendship, I feel worn out from the effort and the "good times" (of which there will be many) are simply of no value anymore. I consider it a terrible fault within myself that I can so suddenly, quietly and finally walk away from a friendship and not be willing to even discuss the reason for it's demise. It's a cruelty I despise within myself. Usually, it's petty stuff that build over the years that finally does me in-one unimportant thing will suddenly and unexpectedly be "the" one that is my last straw. I am aware this is fault is of my own making because I'm so unwilling to discuss the things that bother me as they are happening. I tend to ignore a great many small things that snowball into a place where it's just too late. It's a terrible failing. I don't know if trying to talk something out would do any good (I feel petty if I try) but it really would be far better if I had made the effort along the way, before I was so completely done. This has happened a handful of times in my adult life with friendships that were five years or even decades old - this really bothers me about myself. I understand the petering out of a more casual friendship - this happens all the time in life, this is not that. It's a sudden death of my own making. The common factor is that I always end up feeling that I was upholding the "work" part of the friendship rather than it being a two way street, and then I quit my job. I have no idea if I'm correct in this perception as I simply won't allow any discussion about it once it's a done deal for me. A terrible flaw in my make up. I wonder if this flaw is in any of you - I often feel so alone with this issue....See MoreLet's get started - What are the best things about being single?
Comments (53)Hi - new member here, and I enjoyed reading this thread. I've never been married, no kids, and got out of my last relationship 2 years ago. At times I feel like there's something wrong with me for not dating, and sometimes I do get lonely. But this thread helped me remember all the things I do like about being single and living alone! So here's my list of favorites: - I don't have to listen to Howard Stern in the morning anymore. - I can rent silly movies without having to listen to comments about it being "gay". - I can listen to anything on the radio, whether it's classical or jazz or country - I have hot pink accents in my bathroom, which never would've gone over with the ex-bf. - I eat a lot better because I don't have to work around his picky diet (ex-bf wouldn't eat a lot of the things I like) - I can stretch out in the bed, and can sleep late without anyone making comments - I don't always shave my legs or other body parts anymore, unless I feel like it I think the key, though, is that if you have a really GOOD relationship, a lot of these things aren't an issue. For example, my next boyfriend will not be someone who would call everything "gay" or criticize me or veto all my decorating decisions. At least I hope not....See MoreTell me about your worst kitchen ever
Comments (18)Bluekit - you must tell us more about that tarantula. Wow, it's actually possible that people have worse kitchens than me??? I'm *so* sorry to hear that!! My current kitchen *is* really bad. Beyond being tiny (roughly 7x10), it's never been updated since its inception in 1948. (Uh, not quite true - I did get a new fridge at one point.) Sink: Enormous cast iron double sink that I only use half of - I covered the other half to hold a dish drainer since I have no dishwasher. (The covered half is cavernously big - I think it was intended for laundry.) Stove: 36" wide gas range where the burners are all shoved to one side as though it were a 24". Pilot light that goes out all the time. You light the oven by turning on the gas, and then waving a lighted match in the broiler drawer underneath - I'm always afraid I'm going to either asphixiate before the flame catches OR blow up the building. Maybe both. Cabinets: White, painted over so many times the doors don't close. And so few of them! One cabinet over the fridge that I can't use because I have the microwave on top of the fridge. One over the sink. A metal sink base so warped, the doors won't open. A broom closet. And one set of 48" wide/17" deep upper/lower cabinets with a counter on top. That is my only counterspace, btw. Counter: Old white speckled formica with chrome edge. Happily, not much of it. (See cabinets.) Floor: Some old white-ish vinyl tile that you can't make look clean no matter what you do. Completely unlevel. My contractor cracked up when he saw my floor - said it's the worst he's ever seen. Oh, and the doorway - there used to be a door there, but someone before me removed the door but left the doorframe and one hinge. Man, I can't wait to rip this whole thing out!!!!...See MoreJudith
