Need to recut a skirt pattern

I have a pattern I like that has a straight skirt with no waistband. I would like to add a little bit more flare to the bottom instead of making it so straight. I don't want to make it an A-line though--just a little bit more room at the bottom. Where do I need to start flaring it out without making it look A-line? It occurs to me that I could make a slit in the pattern and spread it from the bottom to up around a point in the tummy area. Does that make sense or wouldn't that work? I would have to fill in that portion with some other paper or something to complete the pattern. Have I presented my dilemma correctly so that you can understand? Seems I always need to know something, but I want to get this made. To make it so straight makes it draw across the tummy area. Thanks in advance - Barb
