Mittens from felted wool info?

With arthritis getting in the way of knitting anymore, I thought about attempting sewing mittens. I have seen them made from felted wool. I found the sweaters at the resale shop and all but one felted nicely. Does anyone have instructions or info on handling these sweaters for cutting and sewing? I have a good mitten pattern but not sure if I have to cut out the pattern and serge edges first, or what is my first step?

I don't think it matters ...you can do it either way....If it were me, I would cut them and sew them and then edge stitch them...felted wool isn't going to unravel easily.
