Elastic band waist skirt???

I've sewn a few of these before for my daughters and I always have trouble with the stich. I'm using a 2" or 3" wide elastic and sewing on taffeta/polyester blend. I've used a wide zig zag stitch before but it doesn't look very neat when finished. I also have trouble stretching the elastic evenly.

Does anyone else have any ideas on how to make this look neat?

Divide the elastic and the skirt into 4th's and match the 4th's stretching the elastic while you sew and it should come out even.

I'm not very god at explaining things especially when i can't use my hands,so hope this makes sense to you.

Kathi got it. If possible use a multi-step zig-zag and go slow. It takes time to get the elastic to stretch so it will cover the material area. Good luck
